I've got a few coins that i was thinking about getting graded and wanted to know your thoughts of when or which coins should and shouldn't be sent for grading? For example, this 1958 d Lincoln wheat cent that is in what i believe to be great condition just don't know if i should send it in? Please advise. Thanks!
Unless you are certain that it will grade MS-67, or it is some rare variety that I am not seeing, no. MS-66s go for about $20, which is less than the fee to have it graded.
I am not certain to anything when it comes to grading, is there a way to get a coin looked at without paying someone to get their expert opinions?
Getting a coin graded, unless for a very specific purpose, isn't that rather pointless ? Because Abe Lincoln is depicted doesn't mean he was active in 1958. Unless your coin has some very unusual features, I suggest you forget about it's "value", and just enjoy it for what it is.
What's the point of collecting if not finding the very best and knowing what is in your collection and how it ranks against the known population? If you truly believe what you just said then let's trade coins based on forgetting value and trade simply on enjoying what were have, deal?
Most of the people on here could care less how their collections compare to others. That is the game the TPGers play with their Registry Sets to get people to pay outrageous amounts of money for common modern coins.
OK. I'll have to take your word for it. I have seen slab boxes full of MS & PR 69s & 70s of everything since 1970. But I don't see many VF & XF Barber halves.
For the most part it’s not the recent 69/70s you see from non circulating coins that have the big premiums. Some of the older ones have sizable premiums but most of the moderns with a huge premium are top pop circulation coinage which are very hard to find
As it should be. I agree it would be hard to find a gem 1972 quarter. The ones in the mint sets weren't always great.
