Nope.. I agree to Environmental Damage.. The Clad layer on both sides was affected by soil, dirt, sand and exposure to the elements
Thank you Chris, thank you, looking forward to it, and about them 2009 dimes, I have I'm guessing around 40 to 50 dollars worth, and I only came across 1 other than that one I posted, surprised me. thanks again!! Dottie
The fact that a DISPROPORTIONATE (compared to population) share of 2009 nickels AND dimes went into circulation in Puerto Rico is also apparently true. The linked article is, of course, correct, but leaves out two other causative issues about 2009 coinage. 1) A lot of time and effort and machine cycles went into producing four different Lincoln cents that year, and 2) A lot of time and effort and machine cycles went into producing six different Washington quarters that year, for the territories. Hence, nickels and dimes had a hard time getting to the top of the production priority pile.
Yes they made four different cents and six quarters that year, but the mintages were WAY down due to the recession of 2008 and the flood of coins that came out of change jars creating a glut of coins at the Fed. The mintage of the Territory quarters dropped to something like 35 million each for the last ones and the HIGHEST mintage territory quarter was less than half that of the LOWEST 2008 state quarter. And the total 2009 cent mintages for all four designs was about half that of the one design in 2008. Mintages were down across the board in 2009 simply because they didn't need the coins.
That's still a large amount of 2009 nickels and dimes that were minted. Since they are so hard to find in circulation who's hoarding them all? I doubt dealers alone would waste that much storage space. I found about 10 2009 Lincoln cents but the only other 2009 coins I have are in Mint or Proof sets.
@V. Kurt Bellman A bowel movement is still a bowel movement, no matter what facts you want to throw at it. Have you booked your flight yet to go do some detecting in PR?
Do NOT hold your breath waiting for that. My hometown is one of the biggest destinations in the current exodus wave leaving the island. By some early census estimates, the City of Reading, PA, may be MAJORITY ETHNIC PUERTO RICAN in the 2020 census. It was already close before the hurricane. The public school system has been for years.
Well I guess I will will keep holding my breathe. Guess I know a racist when I see it. Unless you have native american roots then I guess you are from....Maybe someplace else. Probably from some anus country. Let me guess. Germany. My Grand Fathers were puttin bullets in the likes of you in WW1 and WW2. Of course that country now has a better leader then us poor smucks. Racist suck!!
Sorry to hear your people shoot unborn babies. Jus' sayin'. I was born in 1955 in Pennsylvania and have lived in Pennsylvania my entire life, as had all 4 of my grandparents and both my parents. Farther back than my grandparents, I just do not know. My eldest grandparent was born in Pennsylvania in 1885, but one ancestor seems to have fought at Gettysburg.
@David Setree Rare Coins I also am amused by Kurt’s ironic facts and his observations about possible reasons Dime populations are so low in 2009. That’s ALL they were. I just find it interesting that nobody mentions Florida, or the Houston area, both also hurricane sites, or Colorado or Northern and Southern California fire scenes, as somewhere I might be exhorted to go help. No, only Puerto Rico. I'm left wondering why. I also wonder why so many 2009 nickels and dimes managed to end up in Puerto Rico, but I've always chalked it up to random coincidental timing of coinage orders.
90% German 10% English WW1 Paternal Grandfather US Army literally in the trenches in the mustard gas shooting Germans. WW2 Maternal Grandfather US Army Day second wave Ohmaha beach shooting Germans. I was in the US Army for 10 years and if you were German and we were at war I’d shoot you too. You want to insult me also?
