Just bought a bag of 5000 1930's wheaties and pulled this one out. Pics are the best I can get, anyone have any opinions on a grade? This is the 2nd one I have found in the past month. I believe this is the DDO-I, the other one is a DDO-II based on the thinness of the left leg of the R in LIBERTY. Actually, the last three pictures suck, I'll try to take better ones later today, but for now can anyone give it a ballpark grade?

    dave,

That is a nice find! The DDO #1 is a fairly tough one to find. Although Lincoln's cheekbone and jawbone are separated (one qualifier for VF-20), I believe that it will grade at F-15 due to the wear on the Wheat Stalks.

thanks guys! Huntsman, as far as the grading goes does the overall surface of the coin come into play? I mean, there are very little contact marks on either side and has a nice full rim with full, undistorted lettering. Just curious, I do agree about the wearing of the cheekbones for VF-20 but was just wonderding if other attributes could raise the grade. In addition, not sure if this is true or not and if we are not allowed to post websites please edit this but, www.lincolncentresource.com states that, although less pronounced than the DDO-I, the 1936 DDO-II is actually a rarer find. Is that true? I know that listed values for that year are for the 1st DD because it is more popular. I actually found one a few months ago (DDO-II) should I post any pics for grading or for people to see two different varieties?

I think calling it VF is pushing it. Looks Fine to me but Man I am envious, I would love finding something like that. It would make my day.

It is my understanding that we are allowed to post links for educational/reference purposes (like your link) but not for shameless self-promotion of our own web-sites, auctions, etc. This is, after all, primarily an educational site, and anything that furthers the available knowledge base is fair game -- within copyright laws, etc. If I'm wrong, please clarify.

    Oh, and Nice Find!
