Just going through some pocket change before dumping into the vacation fund and found this one. When I picked it up I noticed right away that it felt heavier than it should (I don't have a scale yet) and even without my loupe I could see the double reeded edge on the reverse. What is the verdict from my peers on this one? And yes I know I need a better set up if I'm going to keep posting on here.
It appears to be a MAD that looks like is deteriorating, (PMD) by no means don't take my word for it wait for an expert to come along. That's a newbie taking a stab IMHO Dave
@Double Die By "double reeded edge", do you mean that part of it is copper and part of it is clad? If so, that is normal for most clad coins. If that is not what you mean, then you will need to provide a better explanation. Chris
In pics 3 & 4 the reed edges are visible inside of the separation area and on the outside of the coin where they belong hence my term "double reeded edge" whether correct terminology or not?
I may be wrong, but I believe what you see is an artifact of the misaligned die and it's subsequent deterioration. Chris
