What tells you that they were struck at West Point?

 

Do your reaserch oncebt stuck from 72 to 85 and get back to me on that. What tells you that im automatically wrong?

You don't have to get nasty. He never mentioned you are wrong. Just a simple explanation is what you need to give.

There is no way to differentiate a West Point struck Cent from the early 70s from a Philadelphia minted Cent.

Ah, the coinluminati, eh? But ya see, I work in a state Capitol building. If we couldn't use pocket magic mice, we'd never get ANY information.

 

West Point did mint cents during that era. But, they lacked mint marks just like Philadelphia cents. There is no known way to distinguish a coin minted in west point verses one mined in Philadelphia.

Of course there’s always the ultimate marketing plan - count on the limitless gullibility of the YouTube crowd.

 

One would have to find a shipment in original packaging with West Point Mint banding for proper authentication. Circulation Kennedy half dollars were minted in San Francisco until 1967 to supply overwhelming demand, but no authentication exists for these.

 

In a past post I jokingly told the OP that this is a West Point mint side minted and punched and an extra special scratchy slug was used in the stamping machine. Extra special! Low and behold quess what he comes up with? Special issue WP “Pennies” in a US Mint seal-A-meal bag. UNBELIEVABLE!

 

Hey, he never said these cents were MINTED in West Point, now did he? No. He said they were "relased" there. Now, pending hearing what the definition of "relased" is, I say we give him the benefit of the doubt and just say he meant to say "released". Maybe he went to a random bank in West Point, NY and asked for a few rolls of cents.

Now about that solid copper thing, I'm fascinated to know how he managed to remove the tin and/or zinc.
