It's not so much that - it's all the extra "junk" people will have had to buy to get the medals they wanted.

Yep, no medals for me, has to be legal tender for me to get excited - I'm a COIN collector.

I sell modern commems at an antique mall. You wouldn't believe how many young people have told me they're turned off to the series due to all the war themes. Yet they do sell from the mint, they're usually the higher mintage issues. I think it's the old war mongers that buy them.

This. There’s gonna be an extra 100k coins floating around where people just wanted the medals

Either they’re lying to you or you live in one of a few places most likely. There’s really not ms ny war themes in the modern series and world wide war themese commemorating these very important pieces of history and the sacrifices of past generations are extremely popular. The difference is the rest of the world does a much better job with it overall than the us mint does

I don't know if they're lying, they don't buy the war themes. The old white guys buy the war themes. Oh, I live in an area where 90% of my customers have concealed permits.

War themes sell very well everywhere with the caveat that it’s done well. Even war themes won’t save poor designs

Yep, I'm loving it. I'm putting away multiples of all the unc dollars with mintages lower than the Lafayette Dollar (36,026). Aside from the uncs' low mintages, they look the closest to Morgan & Peace Dollars. Those mirrored proofs with laser frosting look like medals and those mirrored fields often don't age well.

In for an proof and an unc..........the medal sets were too bloody expensive, and released all at once. I suppose the fat cat dealers had no problem with this, but I did. If ya wanted the medals ya had to plunk down $500? That's just too much jing for not enough silver.

Exactly! Don't medals usually wind up selling for melt, due to little interest compared to legal tender coins?

If all the medal set buyers dump their dollars, you might get paid to take one off someone’s hands.

My son, who is not a coin collector, had heard of this and asked me if I could get it for him through my account. He was in the army, against my wishes. I told him to forget it and wait a year. Then he could get it at a lower price.

I bought the Navy and Air Service set. I think the medals are attractive. I did not purchase an uncirculated version.

Me personally, I bought them because I like them and don't play the flip game.

I've thought the proof versions have been VERY unimpressive compared to the Unc. versions for quite a while now. It's one of those rare instances when I get what I believe is a superior product yet pay a LOWER price. Life generally doesn't work like that.

Well, not THAT many, but a sizable chunk for sure.

I just saw PCGS is offering the two coin holders for these so maybe not as many as we thought depending on how the dealers submit them

Interesting. I wonder if NGC throws a double, too. I won't do it, though. I haven't bought ANY of the recent U.S. Mint silver medals, and I don't plan to start. They've got to at least PRETEND they're legal tender coins before I'll bite.

The WWI silver dollar's obverse is a total failure historically for accuracy. Nothing is correct. The helmet, the clothing, left handed soldier holding a right handed Springfield rifle. Looks more like a retreat than a charge. Broken nose. Just an awful design. Got to wonder who is running the mint ? Are they even educated? Any student of WWI would tell you what a terrible obverse design this is. Another embarrassment for the US Mint. A total failure for accuracy historically. I'll bet most of the people buying this coin don't even realize this. A dumbed down society.

Other than that, it is a lovely coin. Welcome to CT, Paul. We're glad to have you!:D
