Well poopies! I had a long (and no doubt brilliant) comment in answer to the story of the fellow jailed for passing $2 bills, but when I was asked to sign-in to post it, it evaporated - lost in the aether.
Lesson learned about comments made for another day, I guess.

I have a friend that has passed away, but he always told his wife to ask if they had any $500 or $1000 bills and to get one if they did. She came home one day from the bank and handed a $500 bill to him. He was dumbfounded and told her he couldn't believe they finally got one. She said that they had two, but he only said to get one. He jumped in the car and got the other one ASAP.

I thought $500 and $1000 were no longer legal and had to be returned to the FED if turned in.

They are still legal tender. No doubt would be shredded by the Fed though.

    cpm9ball CANNOT RE-MEMBER

I try to only rant when I feel it is deserved. Yes, sometimes I'm wrong like earlier today, but I will not change my tune on this issue. Why don't you go back the last few years and read CRH threads where people think the bank owes them such a privilege. If you feel that way, why don't you open your own bank.

Let's see! About 40 minutes ago, you commented on my retraction in that other thread........

......but, now you're being either two-faced or fickle.
    Which is it?

Banks are a business just like any other business and customer service is a big part of business. The better the customer service the more people will come back. I live in a rural area with two banks, Wells Forgone and Bank of the West. When I decided to change over to Bank of the West, Wells Fargo put every obstacle they could come up with to stop me from changing. At one point Bank of the West actually heled me transfer by calling Wells Fargo and telling them to knock it off. I've been with Bank of the West for over 25 years now and they have been great. They go above and beyond what is required of them, they'll notorize documents for me, they gave me a free safe deposit box and free checks. Most important, they look out for unusual coins or currency and go as far as giving me a call to come and get it. I also got a $500 dollar bill and it was in great shape except for where a teller had stamped the band and a part of the stamp made it onto the bill. I stop by once a week and they let me exchange for any star bills they got in.

They are still legal tender, but the banks HAVE been instructed to return them to the Fed if they come in. (That doesn't mean every new teller gets told that. It's been decades since the return order was handed down and since so few notes come in any more I doubt many if any remember.) Usually someone at the bank buys them though and then resells them to a coin dealer.

He will never change. Best to just mute him. I've had him muted for well over a year. He's not worth the effort.

She's not talking about the OP. She's talking about the guy who very likely leads this place in mutes.

I know exactly what post she was responding to...the one she quoted. It was posted on 11/26/2016...over a year ago.

She wasn't addressing HIM in that post. She was making a general comment about the OP. The person whining is the same one I muted very early on in my time here. Very obviously, he hasn't changed. FYI, the OP hasn't posted here in almost seven months.
