How far away is this proposed Amero coinage? It's discussed in this very interesting movie: www.zeitgeistmovie.com

Sorry... us right wing nuts would NEVER want a single currency!

That's something the left wing europe-wannabe-likes would push for... that and (global?) healthcare!

Interesting that the web site on the movie appears to be written by LEFT wing wackos. Maybe we've found something (alternate monetary systems) that can unite the far left and the far right.

On the other hand, maybe it would be like combining matter and antimatter and there would be a huge explosion........................

I would not want an AMERO unit of currency. It would head us toward Socialism. Next would be drivers licenses for illegal aliens and a super highway straight through the breadbasket of the U.S and into Canada. The U.S. needs to keep the dollar and not illegals, hire U.S. citizens and english the spoken language here in the U.S. Small government and let the people run this country, not politicians. Down with the Amero. :vanish:

um, today the CDN $ has more buying power than the USD - why would an AMERO be a bad idea, because it includes Mexico? the way to keep the illegals from coming to the US is to bolster the economies of central America - there would be no reason to come here if the standard of living were improved. the downside of high quality of life means greater costs.

i don't want to loose the independence of a national currency or the interesting designs, but the global market will require a single currency once enough of the world's economy is stablizled.

Easier solution would be for Canada and Mexico to peg and fix the currencies at 1:1:1 and then everyone has their own currency but the value remains the same. It would require major fiscal policy, but its doable.

I wonder in the chip in my wrist would be in dollars or Amero's. At the rate we are going in may be Yuan.

Maybe the proposals are being made in the back rooms of Washington. View this link. I dont believe everything I read either, but it seems its being considered in smaller groups.

Then again look at the conspiracy theorists with the goverment having knowledge about blowing up NY twin towers. It too is all over the web.

    Lets not be blind though.:secret:

Doug the Idea is not new I did a post about it around a year or so back, it was discussed in one of the coin mags over here
It was concieved in 1999 by someone from the Fraser Institure in Canada and again by the C.D. Howe Institute, as it stands the US dollar is allready used as a main or secondary currency by a number of countries other than the USA.
While I doubt if anything will come of the idea, it has been proposed just not officialy in goverment circles.
