sacagawea dollar vs: canadian loonie which one you like most?. overall performance - like design and color, composition and intrinsic value, which one has more future in term of exchange value?. give your opinion.........or maybe the british two pences is better?.
Loonie. Maybe I'm biased, but I can buy things with Loonies and not have idiots wonder if it's legal tender or not.
I'm biased for sure and not because I'm Canadian. Loonies. Nice looking coins and Canada has accomplished something we have failed at for years. Getting dollar coins to really circulate. Loonies sit in pockets. Sacagaweas sit in homes and vaults.
Thats because they stopped printing paper dollars and people were forced to accept the coins. If our Congress weren't so married to lobbyists pushing for the continuence of the paper dollar in the US, our dollar coins would circulate just as well. It's not the public's unreceptiveness to the dollar coin that makes it a disaster. It's special intrest groups who claim to speak for everyone when in fact they speak for very few. The coins aren't despised...they're unknown by the general public. And the government can blame nobody but themselves for giving in to paper dollar advocates. Guy~
Believe me Guy I understand that. Although NOT a lobbyist I LIKE paper dollars. Why? I'm a currency collector as well so I have my own selfish interests but I'm up front about it. Until the U.S. decides to scrap the paper dollar they should scrap the coin dollar. It's been a disaster since the Ikes. Of course we're talking about the government here so this discussion could go on for a few more generations. Sad but true and I still like Loonies.
Im all for the loonie, but im also Canadian. I perfer the sac. over the pres. dollar because I really hate the back on the pres. coins. Both of them need better colour, I love the colour of the loonie.
I agree, as I prefer paper to heavy metal as well, especially since my job keeps me away all the time and I end up eating out of vending machines on a regular basis. Who wants to carry around ten dollars in coins all day? I was merely stating that because I'm forever hearing how unreceptive the public is to the new coins, when thats not entirely the public's fault. My point was the coins don't circulate because the government won't let them. Guy~
Read my first post. Simply put, they give in to lobbying that wants to preserve paper money. As long as that happens, dollar coins will never circulate, regardless of design, color, or size. They don't circulate because they won't do what so many other countries have done and just put an end to the paper version of the dollar ensuring the coin version circulates. The government is it's own biggest money wasters, yet they are always trying to pass it off as citizens' fault. Guy~
me - loonie yes, i voted for loonie this time. but i only have one new loonie on hand. some 50 pc uncirculated toonie.
To be honest, I don't think it has much to do with lobbying efforts, at least not at this time. Lobbyists cost a small fortune, somebody has to pay them. And since there is no movement in the works to get rid of the paper dollar, I rather doubt that lobbyists are expending much effort if any on keeping it around. Of course if there was an effort to get rid of the paper dollar, I have no doubt that lobbyists would spring from the woodwork in droves. But I agree 100% that $1 coins will never circulate as long as the paper dollar bill remains.
I prefer the loonie over sac dollar. To me the obverse of the sac dollar looks rather cartoonish. As for the dollar bill for practical reasons I would have to say keep printing them. Much easier on the pockets. But ergonomically I would have to say get rid of them. It coast us 4.5 cents to produce a one dollar bill that will circulate for 6 months or maybe a year. A coin will circulate for about 30 years. Since I'm kind of practical It's a no brainer to me we have to do as Canada did and eliminate the one dollar bill. Lou
I just have to wonder though, if they are truely concerned with massive stockpiles of dollar coins and the costs involved, what on earth is stopping the government, then, from just using their power to put an end to paper dollars and force us to use the coins? It seems it would solve a lot of their problems and save them money. What unseen forces am I missing that is keeping this from happening? Guy~
I cant stand bills at all. I would much rather have toonies and loonies then a bill. It is much easier to keep track of, and I like the jingling noise.
The will of the people - the vast majority prefer paper. They always have, that's why no dollar coin in our entire history has successfully circulated.
loonie i think the canadian loonie have more intrinsic value than sac dollar. anyone knows?. tell us.
