I lay tossing ang turning last night, thinking about coins. What was really bothering me was that Heritage auctions still had an "unsold" lot that I wanted. So, I got outa bed, went downstairs to my computer and bought it This week has been brutal for coin wins in auctions. Here is my late night addition. AV 1/4 Dukat 1680 Schwabach Mint MS-65 Johann Friedrich I (1667-86) Margrave zu Brandenburg-Ansbach Price+ comm. fees $1200 I added 7 coins to my coll. in first 2 weeks of January!

But..but...@Panzerman...I clicked on your photographs and nothing happened. I can't see the coins close up. Gee whiz, if I can't ever own them, and you're going to tease usas you do, can't we at least get a look long close up look at them?
Sorry, but that coin is very small (15mm.) When you enlarge it/ details get blurred I can post the Heritage large format photo/ but quality is poor.

Join me in my club! I collect all AV coins from way back in 650BC to present/ even into US/Canada obsolete/chartered banknotes. Right now I am at 800 coins/ half that in banknotes....full bore ahead. Oh, forgot....also have 50 AR Talers/ 50 Morgan/Peace Dollars, all in MS.
I’ve become an early (US) copper fan of late, but I’ve always had a real interest in the very beginnings of coinage, just never took the leap more than just study. One collection at a time; the only way the old lady let’s me get away with it. Yea, I know.
US early copper coinage is fascinating, I saw a pristine collection sold either by Stacks/ Heritage.....in the millions$$$$. Its the same with Canadian Silver coinage 1870-1936, some examples in MS-66 go for close to 100K. Gold sounds expensive, but probably cheaper. Fact is that, high quality Mint state examples are not as hard to find as in Silver/Copper coinage. Gold also keeps its lustre, does not corrode in saltwater, suffer from oxidation, and most important was not as heavily circulated/ many coins were put into safe storage by collectors throughout history, or hidden, to be discovered in present times. Good example, the Dog walking couple that found all those US Double Eagles hidden away in 1860s in rusty canisters. Most were perfect mint state! Unfortunately, when I take my Rottie for his walk, all he finds are food scrapes
