As long as nobody seriously was suggesting IA-21 for Effigy Mounds (BTW, I still like what we got better than any of those options.) But what's with those hands in IA-21? "I have dirt for you!" What the...
Guess the designer wanted to show how these mounds were probably "built". More Effigy Mounds designs are here for example: http://mintnewsblog.com/effigy-mounds-and-ellis-island-atb-design-candidates/ The IA-04 design for example looks good to me too but may not have "worked" on a coin the size of a quarter. Christian
Focusing on the (lost to history) people who made them, and their connection to the land? I actually liked that one quite a lot.
Here's the thing - the entire ATB quarter series has been "literal on steroids" so far. Going allegorical, or mystical or spiritual would have made an awful fit with the rest of the series. Now if the Secretary of the Treasury says, "Hey, on the next round, let's not run so literal", that's not a bad concept.
Who knows Kurt some Artsy Fartsy esoteric portrayal of Man sharing the Earth? Im just guessing here. And the animal crackers? That background looks like a classic N.W. Cranberry Bog! Did I nail it or what!
Had a thought here, I think we should call in Daniel Carr. I like some of his original stuff it’s nice. The model I included is a picture I used in one of my past posts as an example of an attractive model not the ugly child carrying the ugly baby model the used for poor Sacajawea. Ironic that she looks so much like the first coin by Carr. Classic! We need real coin artists doing our coins. I know their out there. Reed.
Reed, I understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the young lady who modeled for the Sacagawea Dollar is far from ugly and she is a real person who should be shown at least a modicum of respect. Just my 2¢
Here is a nice photo of Randy'L He-dow Teton by the way: (From http://www.americanindiannews.org/2009/11/interns/) Let us keep in mind though that Goodacre was not interested in a "1 to 1 copy" of the model. After all, that would have been another living person on a US coin. She wanted to depict Sacagawea ... Christian
I hear you, the artist just didn’t portray Her well then and that’s the problem. The images of Sacajawea and little Lizette are not attractive IMO. The coin looks nothing like the Model and that’s the artist all the way there. Nobody told him to make the likeness NOT LOOK LIKE her. She is very pretty and I wish Sac looked more like her. I would not think these two people are one in the same. sad! Her head is to round, Hair line to low, Mouth is to big, jaw line is different, face is to short among other things. Reed.
The baby's name is Jean-Baptiste, otherwise known as "Pomp". I don't know where you got Lizette, but the baby is a boy.
Oh heck I got it off the internet of course. It MUST BE TRUE! Oops retract retract retract and add Pomp instead, my mistake. But it’s impossible to tell from the rendition of baby Pomp if it’s a He a She or just the family pet raccoon Meeko.
To magically summon someone, put an ampersand in front of the name like @dcarr and they are notified. @352sdeer
Not to sound like the grammar nazi, but this “&” is an ampersand. This “@“ is an “at” sign. I still love ya, @Kentucky !!!
I’m a Lincoln guy so I miss ALOT of what’s up with other denominations. I think That @dcarr did an Awesome job see what a real working coin and medal ARTIST can do! That Rhode Island design is right up my alley as I am a sailor and own a classic wooden boat and have sailed many times under the Tacoma Narrows suspension bridge very similar to the coins Reverse. Thanks for the information! Reed.
