I you need to look for something under 50x magnification, it's not worth looking at. That's just my 1c.
Ok, so what do I have,?? Because I can't find anything like it anywhere. So is this a new anomaly,? And what should I do with it? Send it to have it researched??
Do nothing with it. Do you see the edge of the Cent next to the date? Looks like exposed Zinc. Most likely water got into the Cent which is Copper Plated and reacted with the Zinc causing the Plating to take a weird shape. I say it's not a Mint Error nor some new discovery. Just a damaged Cent. Peace
This is my 'Greasy Ghost' penny. I had a group of experts give me the information and what caused it. They were stumped for a bit thinking it was a split planchet. Then the expert of the expert group gave us his answer. http://www.error-ref.com/ghost-images-formed-by-grease/
It may be a joke to you, but I'm guessing that to the OP it's a learning experience. Perhaps if very lucky, one day he too will be able to laugh at those who haven't yet reached his level of knowledge.
That's the outcome I've been told , but it sure is odd. Thank you for your reply. I've learned an awful lot from the members here and I'm very grateful.
