Guys, I'm not much of a currency collector- way more into coins. Anyway, a gal I know found a 1993 $100 star note at work. I took a quick look at it. It has been folded in half once but is in really crisp shape. The fold has been more or less "pressed" out of it, but the crease can still be seen. I can detect no other imperfections. Is it worth keeping as a collectible? She'll give it to me for $100. Thanks for any help.
Knowing the serial number and pics (of course but she has it) would be helpful. For face value though I'd jump on it. Can always spend it later if you have to.
I agree...get it for face value and if it isn't worth keeping spend it. I actually have a 1990 series $100. Nothing special about it...just an old style note. If i ever need $100 i'll spend it, but i'm in no need.
I like the old style notes and keep most of them that I come across. I would get it and hold onto it. You could always spend it later if needed.
OK, I went ahead and got it. Nothing too special about it I guess, just not something you see every day. I'll post pictures tomorrow.
There is one other fact tha may make it worth your keeping. Been discussed here before. The Feds are now actively destroying ANY old style currency in denominations from $5 on up regardless of condition. This is an "anti counterfeit" measure as it were but not one that's ever been taken before. Had the Feds gotten their hands on your note it would never be seen again.
I agree with what has been said..keep it. The source, if I know Clembo like I think I do would be the Small Size U.S. Paper Money by Schwartz/Lindquist 7th edition. Nice note... RickieB
You are correct sir! Standard Guide to Small Size U.S. Paper Money 1928 to date by John Schwartz and Scott Lindquist 7th edition A real good book for this kind of stuff. clembo
Another excellent source ... http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/ nice looking star, for an even better price!
