I doubt that many people would even care considering that the average person doesn't even KNOW who is on the coins. The average person has become so complacent and bored with the coin designs that they do not even pay attention to them anymore. That was why the state quarter (and bicentennial) program was so successful! After three generations of not having anything different on the coins suddenly THERE WERE NEW DESIGNS! And they kept changing! It became a point of interest to actually look at the coins again to see if you had a new design or one you hadn't been able to find yet. Eventually though the constant changes became boring in itself and interest waned. Not completely, but you have to admit it isn't what it was back in 1999 or 2000. Change is good, it stimulates, but it shouldn't be done too frequently. That's why I still recommend changing one coin at a time at five year intervals. The new design peaks interest and after a few years when it is now commonplace a different coin changes and revives interest again. It stimulates without overwhelming, and by the time you rotate through the denominations and come back to the first one, the 25 year mandate for the continuation of a design has expired and it can be changed by the Sec of the Treasury without having to go through Congress.
Absurd...most people know who is on our money...like you say, they have been on them for so long...I have never met a person who could not name who is on the 1, 5, 10, 25 cent coins or on the Dollar bill. Just to make sure though I think I will start asking around
That photo scares me. Beware of the North American Union and any currency ie Amero. Drivers licenses for illegal aliens and amnesty for illegal aliens is just the begining. Google North American Union... scares me! Do not support that!! I am for the good ol' lady liberty. No more politicians on our coinage. Keep the United States FREE!! Bring on the Lady! Not the Amero traitor.
Ask away, I think you'll be surprised. There have several surveys done over the years and most cannot.
I would be suprised if they didnt...Its often all in who you survey and where its taken. Everyone I have asked so far has had no trouble grand total of 3 people...tomorrow I will ask more people and keep track of the results.
Well After 4 years we have the ugliest picture of Jefferson ever rendered in the US nickel. Good JOB! Seriously What do you think of this on a $1 coin
I am okay with all areas of this coin. It represents what the U.S. is about, stands for and where we have come from. Also, what direction our founding Fathers intended life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, along with freedom, to grow... legaly represented by the PEOPLE.
I'm with Conder101 on this one. Our coinage is boring and been around too long. Time for change (no pun intended) and get rid of the dead Presidents!
Which is exactly why I said - "Now, a word of warning, be careful what you ask for. You just might get it. But it's very likely that it won't be quite what you asked for."
excellent point. Kids today can't find unique full silver coins in their pockets anymore. That's what got so many people into collecting. You could find great values in your pockets. Now it's hard to know where to start. That's what the state quarters and presidents are for, even though they have no silver and gold they can still have meaning to people. Especially if they have errors.
Yep today all they can look for in cents are 70-s small dates, 69-S doubled dies, 72, 83, 84, and 95 doubled dies, 82 no P dimes, maybe a 96-W that gets spent by mistake, High and low leaf Wisconson quarters, 70-D and 1987 P and D halves, yep there is just nothing left to look for in pocket change anymore now that silver coins are gone.
Daniel, I think you are starting to get better with faces. You still have a way to go, but you are definitely getting better.
I definitely support bringing Liberty back to our coinage! The coins of the 19th century with depictions of Liberty were so much nicer than our current coins.
I'd have to add my "penny's worth" and also welcome the allegorical designs of yore. Maybe the mint could redo these as limited 1-2 year issues?
I think your coin designs are awesome, but whats up with the Amero? Can't you design something else? Maybe a nice U.S. quarter or something? Looking at that coin just makes me angry...the selling off of our national identity to corporate and foreign interests.
I think the amero liberty needs a piercing, maybe one on the nose and a few on the top of the ear Its tough to think of bringing back a "liberty" design on a circulating coin. First, it would be a direct insult to the President it was replacing. Very politically incorrect. Certainly the mint can crank out issues until the planchets run out, but a coin that is not circulating...in my opinion...will never gather collector interest in the long term. Wouldnt it be nice if the American Eagle $1 bullions were a circulating issue? To see these after ten, or twenty years of pocket wear? And to then really appreciate those that were preserved and slabbed in ms69 or so? That was the beauty of collecting in the "olden' days. Circulation made the chase for a better coin for the book much more appealing. Back in the day, when you pulled out a Standing Liberty quarter in AU or so...THAT was a find. Sure, you could buy one, but circ. finds always have an appeal that cant be beat. Today we are seeing more and more of a shift to a plastic based economy. Coins are not as important as they used to be, and to many just an annoyance. Thats why we accumulate these cans and jars of pocket change, we really dont need it to begin with. 100 years from now, people will be collecting old visa and mastercards! Imagine, 2008 VISA PCGS ms68
Come on, he's already designed three of the state quarters. (RI, NY, and Maine is obviously based on his design.) Tht must explain there is so little interest in Morgan dollars.
