I think making these sorts of connections at a young age can be a good thing, as you establish a reputation for yourself. Just make sure that it's a good reputation you establish.

Nice post Clembo. I agree with you.

I have seen my share of gun toting dad's in S. Florida that were just a little more than nuts. I agree - between you and your friends it might be fine - just keep your wits about you! Think about those dealers that bought the dollars from your sister. If you took it to the cops they could have caught some flack for buying stolen property.

    Good Luck

You have joined quite a club. Many of today's most successful dealers began their numismatic careers while still in HS. I wish you well!

OP, there's nothing wrong with paying fair market value and I would do exactly the same thing. I'm just saying don't be surprised if a parent complains. Technically, everyone involved is old enough and there is no legal recourse, but lately, the news is chock full of parents complaining about things that they technically have no right to complain about.

I came off sounding like I'm going to totally rip someone off. I shouldn't of said that. I plan on offering what dealers would offer (which a lot of times is no different from a ripoff)

I assumed you would. I'm just saying don't be surprised when a Parent has seller's remorse, despite it having been their kid that sold it.

If anyone asks, you already resold it at a coin show for cash.

    George.
You bring up a very good point sometimes the wrong people find out you have extra money when you start doing things like that.

A real one had a denomination of $3, that one is fake but has a few dollars of gold in it.
