I'm excited to go back to school in less than a week. Most people wouldn't, but I commute to college and it's 40 minutes away... and I have a great route where I can stop by like 6 banks. Haven't been there since I left for winter break so hopefully there will be something good! I've been hitting it dry, besides the Ikes I found yesterday that I'm actually really excited about. I stopped doing boxes because I'm an awful procrastinator and I never want to dump my stuff. So $500 in halves will sit in my basement waiting for something to happen to it. I will probably start doing boxes again eventually though, when I have more time and inspiration to dump!

I've found a whopping 2 out of the ~$40k worth of nickels I've searched. Others have had better luck than me though.

 

what a day....2 boxes of halves...2 boxes of dimes for a grand total of 1 1949-d Roosevelt. Not really worth a picture. Slim pickings lately.

 

Looking back through copper I made up a roll I rated 6 ++.
Really beautiful copper.
The box has given up a few 5. But no pennies so far that I don't already have.

 

How do you decide on your ratings? Your whole collecting system is an enigma to me and I am interested how you go about it

So far I've found 4 v-nickels. An 1899, 1900, 1901, and a 1911. All in average circulated condition. Weirdly, up until this last box I had found more v- nickels than buffalos.

 

Nice haul of halves FF! I especially like the silver bi-centennial. All the proofs look to be in nice condition too.....

 

2 banks tonight had no halves or large dollars for me to buy. At the third, the vault teller offered to order halves for me, but I don’t want another account because I’ve 8 already, and their coin counter won’t accept halves, so I politely passed.

I’ll keep searching.

Nice finds! I would be happy to get the 2017p cents. I can't get any in the Denver area.

 

You have the problem that I have finding Denvers It takes me about 6 months before I start to find D's over here in Maryland.

 

That's my 5th silver 76S proof. I'm pretty surprised. I've found a 69S silver proof and a 00S silver proof but they are not at all common.
The proofs were pretty nice. They went into my son's Kennedy folder since he decided he wants to collect proof half dollars

 

I've pretty much decided that nothing under 4 is going to remain. A 4 has no apparent dings. Maybe the very slightest spot at a letter or such and are dry.
5 is first level wet. Might have very fine scratch or spot.
6 is shiny and clean.
6+ and beyond are wet, toned and spotless.
Since I refined the system I have 8 or 10 rolls to go back through. if nothing else I found some stunners in a roll marked 2. So it behooves me to look at everything with the old markings.

Was it this box I said had a better bunch of copper keepers or the last box? Most of what I'm getting through 25 rolls is going into stacks to go back out into the world. Of the stunners I said I found in a 2 roll more ended up as 4 then 5 and more 5 then 6. I have enough 5 and 6 to make a roll and call it 5.
But I have plenty to look at.

 

That was an odd statistical anomaly.

 

Found my first semi-key nickels of the year on 1/11 - a 1955 and a 1951-S.

 

Does anyone else that messes with pennies find these to be true?
1973 are for the most part stamped with the reverse concave. 1974 mostly have the obverse concave. Not all pennies of each year but many. Because of this most 73 don't make any better than 5. 74 is a little better.
