Well here’s my theory, that looks like an area of the rim that has been mechanically “peeled” away from the rim. Possibly roll crimper damage. I do see some light signs that coins been processed and rolled. I’ve seen more that a few coins like this before and atribute them to this idea of mine. Remember just my theory. Reed.
We’re is Usmc60 when you need him? He loves these things! L.O.L. Oh no I hope he didn’t hear me, oops.
Hey paddy just a question here but doesn’t a rim cud lie above the surface of the coins rim most times unless there is severe die or collar damage to the coin? This area looks to me to be a tear into the coin as aposed to an additional anomaly I’ve marked the area with an ark that follows the displaced inner rim edge caused by the “hit” that caused the area. Also a couple of “tells” this coins been through the roller/crimping process at least once. but you know how It goes. My eyes aren’t so sharp any more. Thanks Reed.
