Common date, so many melted. Beautiful dark blue, ruby colors. Thoughts? Watched this tone for over 40 years in a type set. Grade ? 20171231_115302.jpg

Hard to say. Take out of the holder and post images of both sides, then we may be able to help.

Right now, it looks like he got a facial scrub. We'll need better photos of the coin outside of the case to help.

Ok, took off the holder cover. This quarter toned like this over 40 years in a type set holder. It is more beautiful without these phone cameras.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When the toning gets this dark, it is close to going black. I would put this one in an air-tite holder.

Proper lighting helps. Same coin with more light.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I see a black area, and a light area. I can't grade this coin, and I can't evaluate the toning. It may be possible that what you describe is true, I just don't see it.

Try taking more pictures with more/different lights.

The pics are a bit fuzzy. Have you tried putting a loupe or magnifying glass in front of your phone camera lens? We need it to be very clear to help you.

Dark toning is VERY hard to capture with a photograph. I have a Columbian half that is a vibrant purple and I find it beautiful, but I have tried to photograph it so many times to no avail.

I see a few marks. Hard to tell grade from the pics but I’m at 63-4

I've collected coins over 50 years and haven't had one like this. Changes colors from deep blue to ruby red with some gold just by turning it in the light. Pictures just don't reflect this.
