I would call it AU. A really nice coin to throw in the set. And deff one to hang onto.

The lighting makes the coin look too dark to be positive on the grade, but it will grade AU at least. However, it could easily be mint state.

Better than the '49-D you posted.

Looks like a nice AU-55. You bought the entire set for pretty good money at $25. That's wholesale bid.

That's what the 50D is worth, but you can't expect to buy a Jefferson Set for that money.

I would grade that coin is at least a 65 and higher if the luster is all there -- I see no wear anywhere and candidly I am confused by those who said otherwise.

AU... as almost all of them are (if not UNC)

AU-55, nice buy coinlover! :thumb: I can only find 50-ds in my area for that price, so you did pretty good. :thumb: Leadfoot, just a heads up, there appears to be wear on Jefferson's hair, and also possibly inside of Monticello.

    Phoenix

I'm guessing it's probably AU-55. It's hard to tell with nickel coins, since you really need to have the coin in hand in order to distinguish between wear and just a weak strike. I can't see any distinct steps on the reverse, but again, it could be wear or just a weak strike. However, I am under the impression that strikes were generally strong this late in the Jefferson series.

    Still, a very nice coin!

Same offer applies -- if the sender sends these to a TPG and they come back AU, I will buy two MS examples and send them to the owner.

    You guys are nuts. :D

do you all think it would be worth getting graded?

AU-55. There appears to be wear in the area of Jefferson's head and beneath his bust. In addition, there are no steps visible on Monticello. But maybe all of this is just do to a bad pic or weak strike? If so, then the coin could be considered mint state.

I guess Leadfoot and I are looking at a different picture than the rest of you are seeing!

The picture on my computer shows way too much wear on Monticello to qualify for AU or MS.

Probably not. But I'd really like to know. My offer does stand.

The coin just looks "rubby" to me. Maybe in person, it would show great luster and no rub points. Either way, I would not get it graded.
