Hi guys,.. I need your help to find what type of die is in this penny,.. I couldn't find anything at the spruce.com or other sites about this. Please look at the pictures and see that there is a layer of copper on top of the other date. A DDO will look thicker to the top, double struck will look flat and bold?,... but this looks different, like a separate layer of copper being place on top. All four numbers look exactly the same. Thanks for your feedback!!... Good day
What you have on the date is a simple Die Chip. It's very common on Cents from the 1950's Nothing at all to do with a Doubled Die
I see neither hub doubling nor any evidence of it being double-struck. Spruce.com? Never heard of it! Chris
In fact there is a chip in #9, but look at the numbers, there is a second layer of copper on each one
Gee, if I want to learn about Thai cooking or how to build a deck, it is an okay place. Maybe that is why you don't understand anything about true doubling. Chris
That is machine doubling! Do us a favor and stick to coin sites when you want to learn about numismatics. Thai cooking is not on the menu, here. Chris
I've never heard of said site, but after a quick look-see, I found absolutely no reason why one would be referencing it for this purpose. Perhaps if you needed a recipe for tonight's dinner... The coin appears to display rather minor strike doubling.
