Anyone have a Denarus of Lucius Clodius Macer? I know there are only 85 known to exist all Denari. I picked up a coin that I'm afraid to post and find out it is not real! The Seller and I did not know (at the time of purchase) that if authentic it is Clodius's.
Modern fake. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?album=search&cat=0&pos=11 Clodius Macer, Denarius, Unlisted Obv:- L CLOD MACRI Exe: SC, Lion head right. Rev:- LIB AVG - Legionary eagle, vexillum on either side; LEG III across lower fields. A.D. 68 (Carthage?). Unlisted Modern style. Sold on ebay October 2009
Ground rule: A Cl. Macer worth $50 would be fourree, peeled about 75% and marginally identifiable. Expecting more is dreaming.
I was going to post a link to the British Museum examples but their collection search is not functioning right now. Here is a poor-quality Macer that hammered for $7000: https://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=202124 I have never seen an example with the Personification of Carthage and Triskeles types. I would pay $50 for a cast of that type.
