i saw a Mercury dime exactly like this at the Baltimore show this past summer. technically it might be an MS66, but to me, it's ugly.

I have to believe that it toned excessively after slabbing.

NGC would never have given that a 66, esp with that ugly toning.

that had to happen after it was slabed

The back's not so bad...then again, who cares about the reverse when the obverse is so ugly.

I would have a quilty feeling if I accepted that much for that coin.

MS66 is most common grade certified by NGC, you can buy a bright and untoned NGC or PCGS MS66 for around $30. Maybe average uncirculated 1942 dime is MS66

    Wow !
They really marked that one up.
I had a little trouble with that seller before, too.

Remind me of some of the toning I've seen on Franklin halves. Also high grade coins slabbed by NGC and PCGS.
Not for me if I'm not dazzled by some real color.

It looks more like a monster threw-up on it to me.

I'm guessing it looks a lot nicer in hand...I like it. :)

I would agree. That sort of toning always looks bad in photographs, but if you had that coin in your hand, you would really like it....
