For some odd reason my 1971 half dollar is heavier than my 1995 one?

  1. I own two half dollars because I haven't had the money to hunt for half's. The two I have are a 1971 D and a 1995 D. The 1971 is considerably heavier, to the extent that i realized it just by holding it. I don't know why this would happen because in 1971, the mint stopped making 40% silver half's. Someone please help. I don't know hardly anything about Kennedy's.

Comparing the weight of the two just by holding them in your hand won't do. Do you have a scale that can weigh them in grams to two decimal points?

All clad coins weigh 11.34 grams. Silver ones weigh 12.5 grams. Are you sure the 1995 is not silver?

  5. No, the 1971 is heavier

  6. I will weigh it and post the results tomorrow.

  7. I don't have one that weighs down to two decimals but I do with one decimal. But I'm sure the results won't be hard to distinguish because not only does one feel alot heavier but it also makes a different sound.
