Here is the first coin I have purchased for 2018. The seller accepted my (somewhat low) offer, and my eBay Bucks made this coin less than $80. As Steve would say, "CHA-CHING!!! "

So, what is it? It is an AR Gros struck in Metz, Lorraine in France between 1400 and 1540 (I think). It just happens to be the very city I will be studying in this coming semester!

The obverse portrays St. Stephen and has a very nice style. It is a choice higher-grade piece.

Sorry, seller's pics for now. It will be waiting for me at home when I get back. :)

Currently in the middle of my expedition to France. I had a bit of unwanted excitement caused my my ride's alarm dying a horrible death, which made me miss my first flight. :( But American Airlines was able to book me on a later flight, so my adventure continues! :D

I did not ride in the ERJ 170 like I was wanting, but I guess a CRJ 700 is okay.

Very nice coin with an excellent strike and one that has a lot of nice symbolism in it. You got that coin for a steal! These coins were minted from 14th to the 16th century. Here is mine:

Metz: Civic Issue (ca. 14th-16th centuries) AR Gros, Metz (Robert p. 213, 4; Boudeau 1659-60; Roberts 8932)

Obv: S.STEPHA.PROTH.M; St. Étienne kneeling left; civic coat-of-arms of Metz to left and right; manus Dei above; star stops
Rev: Outer Legend - BNDICT.SIT.NOM.DNI.NRI.IHV.XP (God bless the name of our Lord Jesus); Inner Legend - GRO-SSU-S.M-ETE (Gros of Metz); Cross pattée; star in quarters; annulet stops

I think he'll be fine, Erin. :D Airplanes are his natural habitat (he's the last guy on the right). Excellent picture, TypeCoin! Best of luck in your studies abroad. I suspect we'll see great things from you in the future.

That is a very appealing early modern coin. I know so little about the period I probably should not get interested in the coins.

I made it safely. :) I am all settled in and got the jet lag worked out of my system. Classes start tomorrow. If any of you want to meet up this coming semester, feel free to send me a PM.

The 787 has a beautiful wing if I do say so myself (On approach to CDG at about 5000ft):

Try to visit Germany while you are here.

PS- you will have to get used to almost permanently cloudy skies I am afraid.
