Anybody know more info about these( like how to distinguish them) Also West point bicentennial quarters.
There are no distinguishing characteristics on any of these coins, except the SMS coins, which IIRC, were all struck at San Francisco Assay Office
I don't know HOW, but I do know the TPGS's can discern an SMS coin from a really nice circulation-intended coin. Hint: if you can snare up a non-SMS in MS67, as I have, it's a biggish number coin.
I think that I can as well if I have the coin in hand. Distinguishing a P minted coin from a D minted coin, however, is basically impossible.
Remind me as we approach the next ANA you'll be at. I have a "matched set" of 1965 MS-67 quarters, one SMS and one not. I'll cover the labels and we'll give 'er a roll, eh?
BTW, I sent off that 83-P Quarter... still waiting on results. I say MS-64> I've never wanted to be wrong more in my life.
{He digs furiously through his closet, looking for a hat he'll be able to consume if that puppy isn't AT LEAST a 65.}
PCGS, I suppose. They'll 64 it just to bug ME. By the way, the Kennedy halves from the bag I was rummaging through at Rosemont in 2015? I sent in three. Two MS65PL and one MS66PL, all three Denver. The Philly had no shot at PL, but I did get a straight 67 Philly.
Only non SMS that you can distinguish by date and mint is the 1967 Kennedy half. They were ALL made in Denver. And there are a lot more non-mintmarked coins that aren't on the OP list. Such as the 1975 - 1986 West point struck cents, the 76 - 83 S mint business strike cents etc.
OK there were the two groups I previously mentioned (error the S mint business strike cents started in 78 not 76), plus 1977 - 1979 quarters struck in West point.
