Being newer to coin collecting I started out with mint and proof sets. I wasn't really serious however until I stumbled across this little gem while looking over my sets. From then on it's been game on. I was told this is the most scarce variety for this year so chalk it up to beginners luck. I don't have the best set up for taking pictures, but using the shadowing I think I caught most of the details.
@Double Die You state that the FS-803 is the scarcest variety for this date, but the CPG does not mention this. CONECA indicates that 18 of the 21 doubled dies for the 1963 reverse are proofs. Where did you get your information? Chris
When I had this attributed, in the notes it stated that for this dime this was the scarcer of the DDR's for this year. If this is not correct, then I apologize for putting bad info out there.
There is no need to apologize. I don't know whether it is or isn't. I just like to know the source of the information. Chris
You must really do something about that addiction to information Chris. Try being a little less informed like the rest of us will ya! Lol. Reed.
DD, have a look at this, it doesn't state the scarcity but might give you and idea. Hopefully the link works. https://www.pcgs.com/prices/priceguidedetail.aspx?ms=1&pr=1&sp=1&c=98&title=roosevelt+dime
How weird is it that I have about a gajillion 1963 proof sets and never checked ANY of them for doubled die coins? Some I've had since 1963.
Sounds like you got your work cut out for you then. Maybe they're only scarce because you're sitting on all of them???
Probably not so much me, per se, but tons of people like me, who are not pre-wired to have a penchant for errors and varieties.
While I'm in there, if I do go look, anything else worth looking for in 1963 sets? If there's more in there, that will increase the likelihood I'll dig them out. The physical work involved is not trivial.
Less informed, huh? Let's see. I've got some circulated 1978 Ikes that I'd be willing to let you have for $100 each. Chris
I’ll take a bakers gross please! That’s 156 Ike’s, man I’ll be a big time stacker! Make sure you sell me the real nice ones, only GOOD coins ok?
Bellman don’t you dare tell us if you find any valuable dimes in your 63 stuff. We can’t let you find and enjoy any coins you didn’t know you had. Part of the CT no fun clause that we have had pulled on us lately. Don’t make me turn you in Pal.
If it's just that kind of rinky-dink doubling on the dime reverse, there's NO WAY I'm getting those sets out just for that. I need more.
Do you take Lincoln cents? I’ll go fetch my wheelbarrow. You know the only money I have is copper cents. And that makes no sense.
