Actually I just got this one today. The turtle isn't prominent but it's there. 2001 ukraine 2 hryvni.jpg

Yeah, thanks. I also collect Mexican coins so that one fills two interests of mine. The rarest here though is the St. Thomas and Prince 3500 dobras. Only 750 of those minted.

Wow! I didn't realize that there were so many turtles on coins. Thanks for making me aware of the "hiddenturtles".

There's enough to make it worth collecting but not so many that it's just impossible to try to keep up, like with horses. I have a list of other ones that I haven't been able to buy yet as well.

I posted these in the "newest acquisition" thread but wanted to have them here too. U.S. Hard Times token, Somalia 25 shillings, Malaysia 1 ringgit and a bullion round from Ascension Island. 1837 hard times token.jpg 1984 somalia 25 shillings.jpg 1986 malaysia 1 ringgit.jpg ascension 1 ounce.jpg

I recently posted this on another thread. It is really a "fantasy" coin but the location seems appropriate for the image...

Yeah, I wish there was an official Galapagos turtle coin. Ecuador is the country that owns the islands so it would have to be there. There are actually a lot of turtle fantasy coins from different island groups. I've had to stop myself from buying them.

Actually I usually stay away from "fantasy" type issues. I started collecting close to 45 years ago and got away from it for a for a big stretch. A few years ago when my interest picked up again big time I went on a tear of buying a lot of "countries" for my type collection without doing enough research and I ended up with a number of issues like this. That and a number of fakes too. :arghh:

Will be weeding them out to a separate binder in the coming weeks. Fortunately I don't have that many but they don't belong in the slots I have them in now.

I collect bear coins too and I did the same thing, buying a few bear coins I later found out were fantasy issues. I hadn't realized there were such things until then.

I tried to get a decent photo of a Cayman Islands turtle coin just now but was not happy with the result so I'll go a bit off topic and post some turtle currency.

Your Aruba note reminded me of this 10 Rupee note I picked up in Seychelles a few years go. :)

Nice! I do have some currency with turtles too but I don't think I have either of those. I don't have pictures of them at present though.
