1921S + 1921P Morgan dollars

Discussion in 'US Coins Forum' started by Michael Bertono, Jan 5, 2018.

  1. Hey cointalk community. I bought a 1921s and 1921p morgan dollar off ebay . When i recieved the coins the 1921p actually looks like a 1921d instead. Both of the mint marks look very small and struck weak. I have some older morgans and the mintmarks look bigger and more defined. You guys think these where added to the coin or are these morgans counterfeit? Thanks to anyone that can help.

    yes, D & S.

The mint used smaller MM's on the 1921's.

My 1921 "P" doesn't have a mint mark. I'm not an expert, but I don't think they used a mint mark for the Philadelphia mint on the 1921 Dollar?

Right, if no mintmark it's a Philadelphia.

OP's coin is a D mintmark which were tiny

  7. Thanks guys i never knew they went to smaller mint marks for 1921Morgans. I thought they may have bin altered bc they were both so tiny. So i guess the seller honestly thought he was selling me a 1921s and 1921p morgan and just missed the D mint mark being its so small and weak.

The "seller" didn't know Morgans at all, or he would have known that any mint mark couldn't be a "P".
