While packaging my coins for submission to NGC, I all but ignored using the cheaper flat rate envelope since it doesn't offer the level of protection as its box counterpart. But my curiosity took hold and I discovered that a priority small flat rate box ($6.25) fits inside of a priority flat rate envelope ($5.75). It's a small savings that may seem negligible; however, if you're a seller or otherwise ship occasionally with a priority small flat rate box, you can save 50 cents per shipment. Effectively, you'd be getting a fifty cent discount for the small flat rate box.

A small savings but a goodie!

I've wondered why I have received boxes inside envelops before. Now I know why! Thanks.

That's nothing. You can (and I have) fit 2 small flat rate boxes inside a padded flat rate envelope.
