What's the difference?

During my career I would, at times, get frustrated at having to answer basic questions that I assumed everyone knew. I guess as we advance in our careers (or hobbies in this case) we tend to forget that not everyone has had the experiences, or knowledge, that we have amassed over the years. Everyone has to start somewhere and should expect the same courtesy one would give to their peers. In today's social media world, nobody is forcing one to respond to a question; especially in this forum.

    It's not easy.

I try to not respond to those for who I have no respectable input but I still find myself being snarky every now and again.

Honest question - then why don't you leave and stop posting here ? By your own words you'd be happier. And I'm pretty dang sure that a whole of others would be too !

Ya see Kurt, unlike you, many of us who participate here on CT encourage people who know nothing, absolutely nothing, about coins to come here and ask their questions. Everybody has to start somehow, some way, somewhere - and this is a good place to do that. Because here, is place where they can find others who are willing to accept that they know nothing, and still give them the help they ask for and answer their questions. And they will also find people who are willing to help and show them other ways to learn as well. How to do research on coins, how to find out about coins, how to have FUN with coins and actually enjoy the hobby !

You've made many claims that the hobby is dying and expressed your disdain of how people do things. The hobby isn't dying Kurt, it's just changing, just like the world is changing. People don't always do things the same way they used to. And it seems THAT'S what you don't like. You seem to think that everything has to be done the way it always was done - the way YOU did it. And doing it any other way, well that's just wrong - in your opinion.

Well, you're right about one thing, there is something wrong Kurt, but it's not anything to do with CoinTalk, or the new members who come here, knowing nothing and asking questions. The thing that is wrong - is your opinion. And the way you treat people, pretty much all people.

But ya know what ? We even accept people like you around here Kurt. We acknowledge that you have a right to, well, be you. Just like we acknowledge that everybody else has a right to be themselves and participate in this hobby in any way they wish.

But I'll repeat my question, if you dislike it around here so much - why the hell do you bother to stay ? Simply leave and do us all a favor ;)

I wish there was a posted without a clue button I could push on your comment sir. This Web site is not a retail store nor is it a site to go to so you can find out FOR FREE how much your error coin is worth because you saw one just like it on YouTube. Really that is not part of MY hobby. I collect coins and if I need to know something about coins I do research by book and internet to LEARN about that coin. I thought this site was for coin collectors to gather at to share information about coins. All I see from most newbs is dollar signs in there eyes. I’m new to the site I’ve been a member 5 weeks so IM A SITE NEWB. I am not impressed by the treatment of the newbs as a whole.
But it is my opinion that if a new member to the site won’t try to learn then I’m not helping (there is an 8 page tread right now that is the poster child for this) and will politely tell them why.
    Reed.

I have never expected CoinTalk to be "grad school", but I also don't expect it to be "Pre-K". I'd prefer a happy medium.

And to press the metaphor, Doug, if you're saying it has to be an "Amish one-room schoolhouse" with all grades intermingled, that's really tough to accept.

And I refer you to Reed's post above.

Technical question - Is it possible to "customize" my Recent Topics list to edit OUT Error Coins and Coin Roll Hunting, so they're never seen by me? That would be the coolest thing EVER, and greatly enhance my enjoyment of the site.

Very well said. I like it very much.

Except the last paragraph. It's redundant and cruel.

Doug let me remind you of rule #2:
2 – Personal attacks are not permitted. All Coin Talk members, young, old and in between, will treat all other members with respect and be civil at all times. You are expected to act as responsible individuals, there will be no name calling or flame wars.

Cyber bullying will not be tolerated. And it is up to the sole discretion of the Moderators as to what does, or does not, constitute cyber bullying; as are the consequences for such.

    Hope this helps,
    Reed

As a new member I fear after reading the moderators post that if I say something he doesn’t like I will be personally attacked and have undue punishment levied against me. Can you advise me I am scared now to post anymore and I have made this site part of my life. What will I do now? I’m scared of the Moderators they say mean stuff to people to make them feel bad this isn’t nice.

Well this post has deteriorated from the title "What's the difference?". I guess the difference from the comments is how people feel about the type of posts in CT. The original poster should have added some information than just posting pictures of a few coins. The poster could have added "why the differences in color or toning?". There have been numerous threads recently similar to this. At times I think the poster is someone trolling, just to get the emotional responses that we have seen. But one needs to remember that this isn't always the case. The best thing, in my opinion, is to simply say nothing if I have nothing good to say (like the rambling I'm posting now).:)

Get real, Kurt was the secretary of the Red Rose Coin club in 2016. Not you, me, God or anybody can take that away it’s part of his personal history. If he wants it on his Avatar it’s fully his right to have it there. Do you want to take away his birthday too? And mine are you going to take my birthday away as well. Remember I’m a newbie you have to be inordinately nice to me or I might cry and post more crappy out of focus pictures of parking lot coins for you to tell me how much their worth.

All I have is broken glass it’s kinda like sand. I’ll try that. I’m not real good at it but I did see it on YouTube earlier.
