V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

Note to self: APPARENTLY this is the appropriate venue for people who have LITERALLY ZERO coin literacy to come and get free advice. Wow, never knew. Guess I'll leave then.

Orrrr..., we COULD expect people to do maybe one eensy weensy bit more study or read something before bursting onto the one and only non-commercially captive coin discussion board.

    Nah!

AFAIK, You are one of the "rocks" on this forum offering great advice and humor. IMO, your comments to this novice do not reflect well on you, CT, the ANA, and the Red Rose Coin Club!

Sometimes (I've been there many times), we forget who we are and get too big for our britches. You of all members here should not need to ever be reported by anyone and least of all me!

You may wish to check out another forum where the big boys hang out and see how the PROFESSIONAL NUMISMATSTS above your pay grade treat posters like the OP.

HINT: Either they do not respond to the post OR they educate the poster. Try it, we all deserve it.

I have an expectation of something above ABSOLUTE ZERO literacy, and I ALWAYS WILL. I don't think an expectation north of -459.67 degrees Fahrenheit is asking too much.

By the way, I quit Red Rose as of 1/1/2017. You're 367 days late to lob that bomb. Too few providers, too many consumers. (Too many takers, too few givers, for those in Yorba Linda.) (Like here increasingly?)

But your post HAS reminded me of one thing VERY important. I originally JOINED CoinTalk in the FIRST INSTANCE because there was so much rampant misinformation, disinformation, and outright LIES being spread here about the 2014 ANA convention that I couldn't hold my tongue another minute. I should always remember what my ORIGINAL opinion of this site was, and frequently remains. It's. Not. Flattering.

This site IS what it is. It's an Internet phenomenon, and AS SUCH, it has a lot to answer for, because it hangs out in VERY shady company. The Internet is, AT THE VERY BEST, ON ITS VERY BEST DAYS, a double edged sword. Some days, it approaches "usefulness". It can only pretend to be anything more.

I tend to see just that Kurt. I haven’t been on the site that long but do see some REALLY stupid, dumb, lame, uninformed, un-intelegent. non pertinent and just plain ridiculous questions on this site. Yes we’re here to help but you should at least know what a coin is and a little of how their made. About 5 minutes on line will answer that. So these people won’t even spend five minutes to try to figure out what they come to CT to do for them. Most newbies to the site are only concerned about HOW MUCH IS IT WORTH. Not the case this time but this is one out of 10 or 15 that doesn’t want to know how much it’s worth. Not to mention the Newbs usually won’t listen and know it all. I see VKB’s frustration.

EXACTLY! And by not even expecting THAT LITTLE, we become nothing much worthwhile.

No me I’m saying things now I’ve been here a minute. And God help you if it’s a Newb female. People just gush like middle school kids with their first crush.

JUS' SAYIN'. Does EVERYBODY have to be the "Paula Abdul" of CoinTalk?!?! Am I the ONLY guy who liked Simon Cowell's brutal unflinching honesty the best on the original "American Idol"? Come on, people! Get real!

Your not stupid Kerra just not knowledgeable YET. Don’t let our bickering bother you. It’s the guys that you see here bickering are the ones you want to learn from it just hard to pry the nuggets of knowledge away from these guys sometimes.
@Insider and @V. Kurt Bellman I believe are mortal enemys kinda like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. It’s a love hate thing I think but if you can get them to stop arguing their information is beyond top notch. So just watch from the outside and get some more knowledge and you’ll be fine. Again welcome to CT.

 Sorry, no cigar. I have been at dinner with Mr. Bellman but he has no clue who I am. :cigar:

He is no enemy of mine yet will get his hand slapped by me when I feel he deserves it. ;) Just as I expect the same from others here.

OK, lets stop here. You complain that most people come with no knowledge and want to know only what it is worth. Guess what, it is well within the rules. If you do not like it , we can't keep you here if you want to go.

I will miss you sometimes, but as you say that you didn't know such newcomers and many old-timers are welcome to ask such questions if they wish, Know that no one forces you to read or respond. So let others who want to answer do so.I know it is hard, but just skip to other threads that suit your temperament and intellect.

Orrrr..., we COULD expect people to do maybe one eensy weensy bit more study or read something before bursting onto the one and only non-commercially captive coin discussion board.
That's like asking other certain groups to be honest, and admit they find it hard to leave captive audiences and a knowledgeable resource. There are many here who have more numismatic knowledge than you or I , but will help others or at least not insult them.

Orrrr..., we COULD expect people to do maybe one eensy weensy bit more understanding of a novice who could become a contributing member before bursting onto the one and only non-commercially captive coin discussion board to insulted be make it all about them and their abilities. .
paraphrased.

Some of you guys are bored and no one ( for obvious reasons) will talk with you on a scale beyond insults. If you wish to do that, use PM so people can just ignore you , but don't do it on the board. I can't even imagine what the new year resolution could have been! Life draws short.

I’ve been seeing it getting worse for the last couple of weeks and I’ve only been a member for 5 weeks. Here is an earlier post of mine I want to bring forward:

Well sorry but this Newb ( me ) is tired of all the stupid newbs.
    I know it’s not PC but I don’t care!

Sorry Jim, I guess I have exactly zero likelihood of EVER understanding or appreciating the current expectation, spawned by the entire internet culture, I suggest, that you are expected to do absolutely no "homework", or engage in no self-education, before you emerge all breathless with your "new finds". Honestly Jim, some people arrive here with less awareness about coins than a semi-precocious 3-year-old.

And I keep asking myself how people ended up HERE! I was a SERIOUS numismatist for over 20 YEARS before I ever even HEARD OF CoinTalk. (and honestly, a happier one, too.)

I just realized that as we turned the calendar page on Monday, this is now the 25th anniversary of my first published article on coins, in a "dead tree" publication.

This happens in all hobbies it seems. I'm on BBoards for musicians, photography, etc etc. And many newbies have the same type of questions where you think they just came here from Mars. Sometimes I put an effort to educate. Other times I just ignore the thread and move on and let someone else educate the poster.

I think Kurt would have benefited being a coin dealer in a retail shop for a week.

Perhaps he would have learned patience, respect and humility.

I'm given "the crazies" to talk to in our legislative office because I have "more empathy than anyone else."

And I spent over 25 years behind a retail counter in a family camera shop.
