1736 by J. Tanner for Jernegan's lottery, the prize being an elaborate silver cistern now in The Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg. (Betts 169)

WOW! There is a lot of great content here. An outstanding site ... beyond the Gunmoney also. What is your relation to the site?

Looks like 1736 has dried up pretty quickly, so here is 1735. Another of Lord M's "Circulation cameos" or whatever you called it? British Fourpence:

I like this very much. I'd like to display it next to my George II halfcrown (same coat of arms). I'm going to print (to pdf) this one to remember it ... and add it, or something like it, to my wish list.

Is there any story about that "giant" standing there holding a tree with one hand?

I think it's called the "Wildman", from European mythology of the middle ages.

I was looking at this and thinking the heraldry was interesting for Germany because I see the Irish harp and "Hib." which would be Hibernia, i.e., Ireland, and then I noticed it said Hannover and that's where King George came from. Interesting how he had coins in both places.

And, with this (and barring any new purchases), I am out again until 1708, and only have two more to post.
