Took a Chance with a Low Grade 1843-O Dime

I've always wanted one of these. The 1843 O is one of the scarcer dates in the series and gets pricey beyond F12. Did not what to spend too much though as seated dimes are not my main focus.
This one came up a while back (from a well known self-slabber). Paid $170 delivered. Obviously not problem free, However, it is also not harshly cleaned.
Did I do OK for a lower grade specimen?

I guess? Do you like it and does it make you happy?

Yes - however I want to hear other opinions from people with more experience in the series.

Then, in my inexperienced opinion, you did ok. :)

Reverse looks good. A couple of minor damaged areas on the obverse, which seems normal with a 175 year old circulated coin.
I think it's worth more than you paid. ($200)
Reverse is a solid F-12 (or even 15). The obverse brings it down a little.
VG-8 or 10. I might be at net grade VG-10.
It's interesting how a coin like this (150,000 minted) and prob. fewer survivors compares to a coin that has 3x as many (1909 S VDB) in price.
Or even the 1916-D Merc. With almost twice as many minted.

The surface I don't think is a problem to get a grade at that level. F12, and the damage on her has to be noted.

Of course price is determined by demand. The ratio of Lincoln and Mercury collectors to seated dimes is most likely very high. My interest in this series is only to fill my type set album. Regarding the coin in question, I think the price paid was fair.

Darned demand.:) At the same time it makes some of the older coins more affordable.

As it is I think you did fine Eduard.

    I think you did well.

The dime has an original look to it and even with the damage I would net grade it as a Good.

You paid a tad over Good Bid which, if I was looking for one, I would have paid also.

    Nice pick up.

I grabbed a few (or 10) of these years ago, they just seemed too darn cheap.

Nice coin Eduard On a tough date....150,000 mintage usually found in lower grades 4 obv. Medium size o from a left over 1842 o , also known for a weaker strike. Ya done good! :)

Looks rather wholesome to me, the most obvious issue being the dig in the obv field but it's old and toned over. I like it.

Banged up but honest wear and original skin. This is a much tougher date than people realize I like it

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

The damage on the obverse bothers me. I would not have purchased this coin myself. I would rather a problem free VG than a damaged F.

However, if you are happy with it and like it, then I am happy for you.
