1983 2 1/2 Dollar

I’m not surprised. I totally believe this coin is real. Usually the fakes have softer detail. This has razor sharp definition like a genuine coin would I think the major factor is grade now

The attachments are photos of the PCGS price guide. If you look in the left hand column, you find the date, 1893, then the prices are listed for values in each grade. I attached the price guide for grades AU-58 through MS-67.

The top number is for a straight grade, the bottom number (where shown) is for a plus grade.

 

I prefer NGC. Really wish they would offer the Retro Black Holder more often.

 

Nice coin! I would get it graded, but don't get your hopes up on having a thousand dollar coin. Going off recent sales, it would have to grade MS65 to be that.

You have the position of owning one in MS, and that gives you a unique perspective.

 

I know that price guides should be taken with a grain of salt, but is the current PCGS guide off by that much?

I'm not sure, really. I just looked at recent sales on the pcgs price guide, and you had to be MS65 to hit the grand price. MS64 might have been close.

 

That’s confusing because the price guide I posted is the PCGS guide. It says almost twice that ($1,900) for MS-65

I’m pcgs all the way I find their stuff sells better and for more money. Especially gold. And they’re pretty accurate with gold too. Not the bs details stuff I get with silver sometimes

 

And I’d be tempted to send it to cac after it was graded

 

Auction archives are free and relatively easy to search if you're looking for actual transactions for valuation. As for whether I'd prefer PCGS or NGC, for this coin PCGS. In general, they sell more quickly for more money, but if we're talking MS63-64, it isn't going to make much difference.

 

OK I am opening a can of worms at the start of the year and asking who should I send this to for grading?

 

If it is your intent to "move it soon", PCGS is your best bet. If you intend to hold it for some time, my advice might slip to NGC. I think their long term trend is better.
