Posted these in another thread, but they really belong here. Christmas gift from my daughter who noted my comment about Silver commemorative Canadian Dollars from the 1980s. She found all of the Proofs. I think I am going to drop a few more hints.
Sorry, don't have that one. This is just the reference that the Wikipedia page provided. Also, that catalog will not have the modern restrike - which does indeed look great by the way. Christian
The slab says 3D ( 3 Ducat). In my 4th edition issue of Krause that original 1614 design is shown only in the 5, 8,15 and 20 Ducat. The 8D is noted to being struck using dies from the 5D. The 5D is listed as 0.5345 oz AGW, the 8 is 0.8876, the 15, 1.6642 and the 20 was a whopping 2.2107 oz. AGW
Some of my recent purchases Russian denga (1/2 kopek) 1818. I bought it raw and slabbed it. Pretty rare as slabbed for some reason, only 3 graded by NGC. Germany 50 euro cent, rotated dies. I found it when I inspected my friend's piggy bank. Rotation is quite small, but cool anyway. Russia 10 roubles 1900. Gold (because who doesn't like gold, right?) And also I got 1993-P Proof Silver Eagle as a Christmas gift (my first and only US coin), but it is pretty mainstream coin, so you can check the pictures in ebay or somewhere. It looks exactly the same
I have a few GB six pence coins that I inherited. This is the first one I actually bought. I paid $40 USD. How bad a deal was it?
My second Peru coin in a week, and the design is attractive. especially in lower grades. This 1930 UN Sol has a mintage of 76,000 This seems to have a repunched date but I can't find any info on it. it could be that with the low mintage every die had this doubling?
I`ve just purchased a large coin collection from an estate, they were not very well stored and the collection was so big I didn`t see everything until getting them home. I have a found a bag of 18th century mainly English tokens / conders These 9 were a bonus. Obverse & reverse. But look at this lot, all cleaned, looks like they`ve been soaked in coca cola.
I love these tokens, but I find there are very few collectors for them at the moment in the UK. Are you holding onto them or moving them on?
Seljuqs of Rum, The Three Brothers, dinar.....I know Lord M was after a coin from that dynasty.....got me looking at them with a bit more interest
I think the largest collectors of these are in the US. I need to sort them, I`ll probably keep the best and sell off the others on ebay. I have another collection to buy on Sunday, two suitcases full of coins. A fathers and grandfathers lifetime collection.
well my 2004 Krause world coin catalog has these at... grade/value F-$5.00 VF-$7.50 XF-$15.00 UNC-$40.00 not sure what your coins grade is ? XF-AU wait for other opinions from people that collect great Britain... my catalog prices are low... they must be higher now...
I will not say that you got burnt. It may have been better to get lucky and pay only $20 for it. I know I sometimes pay more than some other person or book might say is the going rate, and I don't much care. As one of our famous members on here said, to paraphrase a bit, "...if I like it and I have the money, then its mine and I don't look back". Six pences seem to go for higher prices than even shillings and florins many times, despite the weight and size difference. That coin is a beauty and I am sure you enjoy having it, so its all good. I just checked my files and see I have paid from $6 to $30 for six pences, and very few as pretty as yours.
