I'm going to dissent. I threw out my guess of the top range for this coin ($500) because of the textile toning, but this coin has huge problems. The obverse focal area is an absolute mess with extremely distracting surface marks and near terminal stage toning.

In my buying days, I wouldn't even have considered bidding on this coin, there are just too many Morgan toners without issues to be bogged down with a compromised MS63.

I can see that. The cheek is a mess. I just thought someone would go nutso over the color. I see why no cac sticker. More like a 61 with a color bump

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

While I agree with you, and I wouldn't personally buy this coin, I've seen textile toners go for absolutely insane amounts. Hence the high guess. They have no basis in reason.

@Beefer518 I'm more with @Lehigh96 that this coin sold for a fair price, but was not a steal. I also think the grade is fair; while the cheek is rough, the fields are actually quite nice. Another thing to note, is that the auction started at $400 and only had the one bid near the end. In my experiences with GC, coins with high start prices tend to do worse than the ones that start at some nominal value (like $1 or $10). Although it is somewhat irrational, it does seem that more people are attracted to the listings where they see a lot of bids.

To add, this is an older, less popular, and slightly scarce NGC holder (NGC 8, which "lasted only for about four weeks in August and Sept of 2000" per Conder101). Being from 2000, that might also be before NGC started using the star designation (@Conder101 or @Lehigh96 would either of you know when the star first appeared at NGC?).

    Edit: Adding holder pictures

Same here. Color is great on it. On a ms 64-5 that’s a real money coin

I don’t think it did anywhere near that. I’m saying $1875

It would be a nice coin for a toner registry set. I've seen that type of toning before, and seems to be 'liked' by many. So I'll say

    $3,499

As for that Morgan, when I found it on GC, I thought $440 was way too much, and I was expecting guesses in the $200-300 range. You guys surprised me with your guesses.

...I’ll guess it went over guide...however I don’t know if this is a toning premium, grade, registry, or all of them.
