Every point up from ms 62 is a solid jump.$360 in 58 $450 at 62 $600 at 63 $1100 at 64. This pcgs retail as I’m away and don’t have my greysheets with but that 63-4 jump is substantial. And to me it’s more liquid in a holder
It should never cost that much. If they piggyback on another dealer or collectors submission $30-$35 for fee plus say $15-20 shipping costs. I send coins for other people all the time and don’t really charge much over my own costs as I’m sending my own stuff anyway
I do have some other coins that could be graded. Unfortunately, the Newby that I am, I do not have any relationships with dealers, not to mention that I am about 50 miles for anywhere. Are there any suggestions of finding a reputable dealer and how do I go about establishing a working relationship. At this point I am still getting organized and not considering selling anything until everything is catalogued.
near what city do you live? I live in the Chicago area and there are plenty of reputable dealers from here to St. Louis
I would check around here for one. Anyone with a bad reputation it gets out pretty fast I don’t know anyone out there off the top of my head. Though in New England I could give you all kinds of referrals or look at and send the coins myself
We're just so "old school", Mike. Based on what I was taught last March, it MIGHT go higher than the 62-63 range. I don't know gold values well enough to know at what grade this goes "hockey stick".
Sounds like you're near Decatur. There are a few dealers in Champaign, but none that I know personally. If you're planning on keeping the coin for a while, I would suggest that you hang around here a bit. there are lots of really good dealers here and once you get to know a few, you might find the trust to ship your coin off to one of them, insured, of course.
You are in the Chicago area? That is about 120 (depending where) and that is doable on a week-end as I am still working full time. Any interest in doing that?
sure. I know of several reputable coin dealers as well as work in a shop myself on saturdays. I would be happy to authenticate your coin at no charge if you come to the shop
A town called Tuscola Illinois off of I57. I do an antique show there. Is the first weekend in March from the first to the fourth
I know Tuscola well, it is on the way to see family. I would like to meet at that show, but have no information about it. Can you supply that to me or tell me what the name of the show is.
I can get you the info once I get home or I can try and get it later I’m away until Jan 4 pm me and I’ll get you my contact info too.
Illinois Newby, do you have access to a jewelry store? One of the best ways to authenticate the coin is to weigh it on a really accurate scale, such as one found in a jewelry store. If you have a local store, you could ask them to weigh the coin for you (in grams). Once you have the exact weight, post the weight here and we can tell you if it is in line with a genuine specimen.
Coin looks genuine. Here is a list of all PCGS authorized dealers in your state. Most would probably submit the coin for you. https://www.pcgs.com/Dealers/Default.aspx?s=IL&rn=12&mn=1&cc=US Tell them you're a bit hesitant to leave the coin with them and ask if they can provide any form of proof.
Tell me where I said I would certify it? I have zero slabbed coins. Don't quote me and then make up crap about what I didn't say.
I just gave those pics a closer look. I understand it's not a super date, but I'm seeing a pretty stout grade for the coin. There aren't any obvious distracting marks. I'd have it graded, if it were mine. And I'm pretty conservative about that.
