i have a mercury die 1934 W it has the letter H in a circle stamped over the face on the coin has any one ever heard of or seen this before ?? i dont know how it got there but it must have been there along time because it was in my grandothers trunk where she put her coin collection but her collection was old and forgot about for along time until she died so it must have been how she found it many years ago , any suggestions?
Sounds like a counterstamp. Not worth anything special and considered post mint damage. Pics would help though. Also, just for clarity, what is the mint mark? There are no 1934 W dimes as the W is on all the Mercury Dimes. You'll find the mint mark at the seven o'clock area near the rim on the reverse of the coin. Oh, and welcome to cointalk!
this is its a 1934 D for the mint i have a large collection left to me by my grandmother doubt if any are worth nay thing special but its always worth finding out i guess most of the coins in her colletion ranged from 1860 - 1935 but again nothing out of the ordianry but im dont know very much , thanks for your help
Its a counter stamp (Done by some random person after it was minted) but appears to be pretty crude. Unless you can tie the counter stamp to something or someone historic, it worth basically scrap.
I have question I have a mercury dime year 1917 found it in a plastic bowel think it was previous owners. it has numbers stamped on it.
