Wow! That looks like substantial loot!! I see most gifters send more than one item. I'll have to step up my game for next year.
Woo Woo, Santa bought me lots of silver which I never have enough of. Got a 1913 Barber Dime which was my grandfathers birth year. Not one but two Walking Liberty Half Dollars, a 1936-D and 1946. Also got a 2013 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 ounce. It's my first ML and the first one I've ever held. The "leaf" is amazing, now I've got a new series to collect.... Thank you Secret Santa, hope you have a nice Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Better than the 90s that you people had not too long ago. Talked to friends the other day who live where all the smoke from the wildfires hangs around. They are glad that they "have" to see relatives today who live in a smoke free area ... Christian
Wow Santa! Thanks! A very cool 1964 Mexican mint set. 3 silver roosies and a 1908-s barber dime. A 1935 S buffalo And a sweet, sweet 1938-d ms65 Jefferson in one of the small Anacs holders with some nice subtle rainbow toning.
So I opened my secret Santa gift and I was not disappointed!!!! THANKSGIVING YOU SO MUCH SS! So here's what was inside A nice little bicentennial combo, Ike half and quarter. Ike is toned which is interesting because I never see toned Ikes except in thone cases from the 70s that are about the size of GSA Morgan's, not sure what they're called. Next a nice solid 1900 IHC. Who could hate that. Ok this is cool, a 2017 penny with die breaks, along with an effigy mountains quarter with die breaks very cool! And now for my favorite! A nice commemorative dollar.... perfect for my type set! I really love it. Thanks again Santa. And a bonus gift I got, which I think is from Kirk for the 5000ths like, a nice 1994 maple leaf. Very cool, I've never owned one, but they are super sharp coins. Thanks Kirk!
I am still working on a new set up with new lighting and of course, I have eye issues that make it difficult for me to get great focus on most shots (I have different vision in each eye -with one eye having a fake lens because of a detached retina that they saved the vision on --- it had actually partially detached at the macula --- but led to a cataract and having to replace the lens, and corrected pretty good, but over time, can get weird, and the other really nearsighted, and have to wear a contact in the badly nearsighted, which if not focusing perfect gets it difficult to judge super focus, especially since the contact corrects for a certain distance only, as older age prevents my eye from adjusting to different distances, and then I also have to wear reading glasses with my contacts when photoing, as if I don't I think I have good shots but they are all severely out of focus. Sometimes finding the right strength of reading glasses for each distance to shoot photos is hard, as each lens gets to call for different ones at times. Don't ask me to explain it all, because I can't. Other than I know I can not wear regular glasses to correct my vision anymore because the different eye prescriptions to correct, and one being a lens correction causes what is known as a magnification issue, meaning that glasses with each eye being 'correct' from it causes my brain to constantly switch between eyes to find the one that is correct and with glasses both eyes don't work in unison) and so this is just a preview of what I got for Christmas. He sent me a few coins and a candy cane and a letter. My SS rocks!
Thank you Santa! Somebody did their homework. I got some cool ancients that I get to identify A sweet 2017 Maple leaf with a maple leaf privy. And something I haven’t seen before, a Morgan with a threaded hub soldered on for use as a drawer pull, I think. Way to go Santa!
That is the second Morgan drawer pull I have seen. I have one with the rev. showing, I found it metal detecting at an old school.
Not from my SS (this is a gift to myself) but wanted to share... my first Morgan I have purchased that was not holed or otherwise damaged. I had one that was holed and was purchased from a kid in my neighborhood for all of 5.00 back in the mid-90s or so. Traded it as junk silver when silver was high a few years ago for some coins and tokens I wanted, so I think I got about 30 odd dollars worth from it. This year has been special in that I actually started purchasing a few coins to start a 7070 but all are going to be PCGS, rather than not. I decided to do this because it will be long term to make this 7070 and because with Morgans and others, many can be faked or doctored, which is why I have steered away from the Morgan series in the past twenty or more years. Doing PCGS gives me a bit more confidence my money is spent well. Also I am learning to buy the coin and not the slab, so extra money is not going to go for just being slabbed, though this was purchased with the implied confidence it really was real and it looked the grade. I plan to purchase most of mine already slabbed but there may be some that I will end up finding raw and having slabbed later. Mostly I doubt that will happen because if I slab coins it generally will be to have a better chance of selling that coin for a higher price, since I like to also occasionally sell coins. I'm not opposed to having it be that other person buy the slab before the coin or find the slabbed coin that is already graded more desirable. I think right now is somewhat of a good time to purchase some coins that are already slabbed for my personal desires because the internet has decreased some prices, and I don't think they will stay down. I think I might have to live another 30 or more years to be able to think I would even complete this 7070 though. Though my 7070 will not be top of the registry by any means, there will occasionally be some that I will find that I can purchase that are higher graded. Probably more on the modern side. I also will not be focusing on the key dates either unless they are quite cheap. This one was chosen because I thought it looked good enough --- not too much of a dog and not expensive. Also it satisfied my wanting to have a New Orleans minted coin. And I got it for less than 50.00. I think that was money well spent. This year was cool because not only was it the last year Morgans were minted prior until nearly two decades later (the 1921) since there was a silver shortage that caused that gap between 1905-1920 and was the last year the New Orleans minted the Morgan Dollar. It is also one that would have traded around quite frequently in the US as general coinage and since my ancestors on one side came mostly in the 1883-1892 period and the other side in 1926, this is one that would have been an year that they would have used, but maybe not so much ones issued in New Orleans, as my ancestors mostly were in the Detroit or Buffalo area. I don't know the general distribution of coinage from the various mints at that time in those areas. In today's time, it seems that Detroit gets mostly Denver issues for some reason and Buffalo gets Philadelphia for ones being shipped from the mints. Overall, my other goal is to be able to photo these slabbed coins I get in way that pleases me so that I can view them whenever without having to go see them in my Safe Deposit Box.
While you can probably use it as a drawer pull too it was most likely done to attach to a belt buckle with a hole drilled in it.
