I assume you're talking about the first listing? If so, it's there simply to address potential confusion; such coins are not varieties (such as what we call "doubled dies") but is the result of doubling present on the working hub, and is somewhat similar to the 1972 master doubled cents.

Mr. Wexler does a very good job of explaining everything one needs to know. If you take the time to dig through his website, it should be an enlightening experience.

  3. I definitely plan on reading more there once I can. I was excited to see a list of things to look for. Before finding his site I was googling each penny date i was curious about individually

It's a lot to digest, I know, but what's most important is to enjoy it. Take your time and don't hesitate to ask questions if needed.

  5. From a quick search online it looks like a gem vue 10x at around $20 is the way to go?

Seeing some claiming 30x-60x for under 10 but figure those fall under the category of cheap knockoffs

Are you implying its worth is less then one cent. Is it cuz the new tax bill? You guys should of let us know sooner that it now takes 4 lincolns to make 1 cent. Wow didnt know i was waking up to this. I gotta watch the news more

  7. Not at all. They are saying the price you would get if you turned them in to a scrapyard for their metal value.

I just called my sisters husband and and he works for ameiican brass in buffal ny. His company purchased canadian coins. (cents) buy the freight cars full. 100's. For melt. Wouldn't say (he asked me not to disclose) saying cpm9ball. Is probably only guessing. 25% is just plan ridiculous. Not even close. He makes ammo cups. Of all size

If memory serves me, there hasn't been an "American Brass" in Buffalo for quite a number of years, so I can only assume you're talking about its present form. Still, and with all due respect, refusal to disclose what this nameless person said renders it meaningless.

    cpm9ball CANNOT RE-MEMBER

American Brass hasn't operated under that name since 1960, and it has been sold and resold numerous times to foreign companies after declining profits.

Yeah.... "educated facts" you steadfastly refuse to divulge supposedly in order to, what, protect this nameless individual? Surely you can at least explain why this person is privy to such information, or at least tell us exactly he supposedly does there.

And perhaps you've overlooked it, but I haven't addressed an exact or even estimated percentage. So much for my "guess", huh?

Tell your Buffalo buddy to take a drive to the other side of town to visit one of the scrap dealers. You know, the VERY PEOPLE who would be the purchasers of such material. Come back when you've their answer.

    I missed this last night.

When you can't even get the name of the business correct, it rightly calls into question everything you're claiming, and is particularly true when quoting a name that hasn't been used in many years.

I just noticed your post; my apologies.

Being as I'm not personally familiar with "Gem Vue", I cannot comment one way or the other. However, and take this as you will, I'm not sure how much confidence I would place in such glass based solely upon a quick google search and who the seller is. It's certainly possible they're fine loupes, but my guess is that they're simply rebranded in order to drive up the price, and who knows who made them.

Personally, I can vouch for the quality of both Zeiss and Eschenbach, but both are rather costly options. If memory serves me, one can get an Eschenbach 10x for a little over $50 and would be a wise buy for someone who uses it both regularly and for the long term, but may be a bit much for someone relatively new to the hobby.

Different loupes have been discussed here before, so perhaps use the search function to take a look through past threads. However, do keep in mind that not everyone knows what they're talking about, so take most recommendations with a grain of salt unless repeated by a number of individuals. Again, if only using one occasionally, most any loupe will suffice, but if used regularly, you're going to want something of quality. Also, if by any chance you've any old camera lenses, certain ones can be used (reversed) in place of a loupe.

Ummm, yes and is the exact same thing both @cpm9ball and I have been saying for years. Don't take the word of some nameless individual online who may or may not have the faintest idea what they're talking about, or may have a personal interest in spewing BS, but go directly to those who would be the buyers of such material. I'm sorry, but an employee at such a factory isn't going to be buying a couple of ice cream buckets full of cents out of someone's trunk.

Now, just because some unnamed person may work at the factory you had to look up, this in no way makes them privy to such information. A buddy of mine works at a dog food factory and he hasn't the faintest idea where or how they acquire materials and simply because it's not part of his job description. This is why I asked you to clarify in an attempt to lend credence to your claim. The guy working some machine on the floor isn't likely to know such things, but an individual tasked with purchasing materials very well may. This should be obvious.

No, I do not "know you speak the truth" and simply because you refuse to do anything to back up your claim, nor have I tried in any way to make an "ass" out of you. In fact, part of the reason I suggested your buddy head to the other side of town is because I just happen to know someone in said city, and in this very business, who regularly fields calls from folks asking about 95% copper as if he's too stupid to realize they're taking about cents. I'm sorry, but this is the type of person that anyone interested in saving cents needs to speak to, not some nameless factory worker who may or may not know what he's talking about.

No one expects you to divulge this person's name, but if you want to be taken seriously, you simply have to give us more to work with. This isn't an insult or a smear, but simple reality. You haven't even clarified which Canadian cents you're talking about, and throwing out a general percentage isn't going to get anyone fired. Please, think about it.
