Seleucius and Pieria. Laodicea ad Mare. Domitian. Tyche. 25mm. A little over 9 grams. I think that might be light for this particular coin. Does anything about this coin look suspicious to you? It's much thicker on one side than the other, (see photo). I've never encountered anything like this before. I know some of you really need to examine the coin in person to make an informed judgement but I would still like to hear any opinions. Thanks in advance.
Nothing screams fake. It may have been overstruck on something else? Look at the traces of letters on the reverse. John
Weights of provincials can be very erratic. This goes double for coins that are not silver and don't have precious-metal value anyway, so they have no real need to be the "right" weight. I think it is genuine.
Something with letters around the rim, which rules out Greek bronzes from the area which tend to have vertical blocks of letters. Probably an earlier provincial or imperial coin. There may be some clues under all the deposits on the reverse but I would not clean it.
