I also purchased 2 variety IHC an 1865 pl 5 rpd, and a 1875 lg/sm date variety the 75 also has a ST on it and an R-4 coin. So I'm pretty happy with Sundays finds.
Is it designated as a mint error on the slab? High grade Lincolns with minor, common errors like this often trade at a discount. The error is common, and detracts from the coin in my opinion. I think, based on your pictures, that 65 is the right grade. 66 is pushing it - and there is absolutely no way this would ever get a 67. $45 is the right price for this piece, I think.
Well I'm glad your's is just" one opinion," as about 30 people Sunday thought differently .....and had two offers on the floor for the coin.
No Larry the luster is really nice ,my images again aren't the best...showing it but it is what caught my eye in the first place. But no matter I'm very happy with it...as I could of fliped it Sunday twice.
It's a pretty coin for sure. I called it a 66. PCGS looks at Lincolns with a bit of a different eye than most of us. They have always been super tough with the luster factor when it comes to the final grade. NGC is not as tough and would probably have gave it a 66. PCGS wants really killer luster for a 67, great full luster on a 66. Any areas with subdued luster can get it kicked down to 65. Good or bad, that's just the standard they seem to have used for many years.
Years ago as I haven't sent any in for quite some time now...NGC was tough on nickels....no matter the series...more so Jefferson's . But no matter the same nickel at PCGS would come back a better grade by at least 1 point.....sometimes 2! Not offten but on an occasion ....they would. I always personally liked the NGC slabs over PCGS....so for a good many years I belonged there... also at NGC they would accept PCGS coins for registry sets. I understand tnat no longer applies. But again this is coin collecting always a different opinion ,likes and dislikes.
