This coin has a details grade because of enviornmental damage. What kind of damage does it look like? pvc? corossion? Is it something that will get worse?
Your third picture appears to show some bubbles around the left base of the script N. This could be corrosion from improper storage, or some time in the ground. Your first 2 pictures look good, but I think the lighting is hiding the problems.
I can look at it closer when I get it now... I had been bidding on it but I got it for $9.99. I guess I can look at as I didn't lose much at least
This is how PCGS describes environmental damage - 97|N-7 Environmental Damage – i.e. corrosion, coating (lacquer), excessively heavy toning, etc. So as you can see the term covers a wide range of problems, any of which could be the reason for their determination. In this case, my guess would be excessive toning which has created corrosion.
Looks to me like it had a lot of pvc or other green stuff removed, leaving behind dark areas. Removed a bit too late unfortunately as the corrosion has eaten into the metal.
