What will the next quarter program be?

Except it depicts those Effigy Mounds pretty well - they actually look like that. :)

These are some of the mounds. But if you walk around there, they will look like this - man made, roughly 1,000 years old, and yet hard to recognize. They could have shown mere outlines on the quarter, but then some would have complained (rightfully so, I think) that the mounds are not just lines ...

Hardly looks like anything worth putting on a coin. When I saw the coin I assumed that were large things, maybe 50 ft high.

Which is the problem with the series. There's to many sites no one cares about and have no clue what they're looking at. The mint did a fine job on that one, it was just going to be terrible no matter what but most people won't even look it up to see that there was really nothing they could do with that one. There's far worse design decisions in the series than that one

Two years ago I almost ;) made it there; the area was on my trip schedule, but then I needed to change plans. Sure, one may say that the Effigy Mounds site is not "worth" being depicted on coins at all. But they are pretty darn big - in terms of total length or width, not in terms of height ...

There may be worse design decisions, but that is one horrible looking coin.
And nothing off hand looks worse IMO in US coinage.
What was the topic again? Oh yeah.
I like the idea of bringing back older designs with modern dates. Maybe for just 1 year each. Draped Bust, Capped Bust, Seated Liberty, Barber, Standing Liberty, and then the Washington before the State Quarters.
Do they still have some of these old dies?

Well it's too late for this but it would have been interesting to have World War 1 commemorative quarters. Maybe in 30 more years they'll do World War 2.

Dies, No. Master Hubs, Maybe. After all they still have the master hubs for the 1964 Peace and Morgan dollars. But by law since they can't strike coins dated other than the year in which they are made, all the dies, or at least the dated ones, have to be destroyed each year.

I don't want to see old designs brought back though. That implies that we reached are peak back then and have only gone down hill since then. That may be true, but I don't want to advertise it.

Yes but the Sec still have two more years before he has to make the decision on whether or not to do a second round.

Wouldn't it be nice if Lady Liberty could finally make a comeback on circulation strikes...

But then you end up with this:

The older designs were more artistic.

I don't care whether it is considered politically correct or not, I hate these modern designs and which we could return to the classical portraits.

Lose the goofy stars, and that's a stunning figurative Liberty. Unless you're going to get all worked up about hair texture. :shifty:

Oh, like on the presidential dollars? Wait, the quarter is the highest denomination when it comes to actual circulation coins. ;)

And I agree with what @Conder101 wrote - merely reproducing old designs is quite poor. Fine for a special occasion, but not for plain regular money ...

Please no more design retreads. There’s 400 million people in the USA and billions of people on earth, surely one of them can design new coins without cheapening old designs recycling them.

But with good artists there is no reason new designs can't be artistic as well.
