Type set display alternatives

I'm working on a type set and I was going to use a Dansco type set 7070 album, but the more I look at it the more dissatisfied I am with it's inflexibility with the coins they chose to leave out and the ones they chose to put in (like 4 holes for commemorative halves). I love the look of the Dansco though, and want to try to stay with that quality level.

One thing I'm considering is the Dansco 7000 Stock book. It appears that it is just a Dansco album with pages that hold 2 x 2s. Does anyone have this? I'm curios what kind of holders can be used for it (I'd want to use something better then the fold and staple holders). Also curios if in the end it looks near as nice as a filled normal Dansco.

Any other display alternatives? I want to use some kind of an album, I just love the look and organization.

I have a twentieth century type set that goes in a frame that hangs on the wall. If I remember I'll post a pic.

Depending upon how many coins you think should be added and how many coins that are included that you don't agree with, you can always leave holes empty and add a page to the 7070 for 2x2s.

Sometimes, in life we have to be flexible and go with the flow. Building a type set is a very personal journey and there is no album that will make everyone happy. I haven;t found anything that meets the Dansco quality so I just fill the album and have my extra coins in 2x2 in back of the gold page. It works.

that's a good idea. It won't be as uniform looking or in order, but at least it will be complete. How many of those 2x2 pages can fit in the existing dansco 7070 album? Also, what kind of holders can fit in those dansco 2x2 pages?

    You might consider Captial holders.

Danscos are nice but Capital breaks them down better in my opinioin. What few "sets" I own are basically in Capitals.

Drawback - not easy to add a new coin as you have to take the whole thing apart. Advantage - when it's done they REALLY look nice and you can see ALL coins at once. No flipping pages.

Food for thought as it were.

here is a question for those who are doing a Dansco type set.

Why is it that 3 out of my 4 large cents are a millimeter or two too small for the holes? The 1840-1857 large cent fits perfectly, but the other 3 holes are all too big for the coins. The coins move around and everything, and 2 of the coins are VF grade so I don't think it's an issue with the outside being worn in or anything.

Large cents of the era were not always made from a uniform planchet size.

I use a shim to keep the coins in place our member here Becky gave me this tip and it works. Just cut a strip off of a 2x2 and place it in the hole around the coin it works trust me .
