What will the next quarter program be?

If current trends persist the old eagle reverse coins will account for only 30% of circulating quarters when the parks series is done. The highest grades will be AU-50 and the scarcest dates will account for only about .0002% of circulating quarters.

And still people might not collect them.

If they did a series commemorating numbers, they would never have to end it :)

Not really sure what theme should be used but given that the dollar has lost a third of its value since the first of the state quarters perhaps the next time round they should use half dollars. That way, by the time the series is finished the coin is question would buy as much as a Delaware quarter did when issued.

Why? There isn't a single vending machine still in use in the country that will accept them. Most cash registers don't even have a slot for them.

Unfortunately the halves, and dollar coins are basically coins no one uses. They really need to fully stop minting those.

As far as other coins, we could likely transition away from cents without too much trouble. Do like Canada did with those.

So I guess the Duck Stamp Quarter series is out.

With the direction of what is popular in our society now, it would need to be Rap Artists and Billionaires.

Maybe they'll have a retro series and do both of the bust quarters, then the Seated Liberty, then the Barber quarter, then the Standing Liberty quarter. Maybe each coin will have a production run of two years so the program can last 10 years. It may be a good re-introduction to today's youth to coins of the past. Then they can go back to the original Washington quarters after that decade long hiatus.

They should've stopped after the state quarters IMHO. Now they are dragging it out with very little interest. We need to scrap the penny and find some way to get people to use $1 & $5 coins.

Or have state pennies? They could feature the largest zinc mines in each state.

The new obverse nickel design is one of the worst coin designs of all time.

It would likely be state mascotts. Could you imagine the Dogwood on a quarter?

I agree. But it is difficult to compete with this:

Let's allow major tech firms to sponsor designs - they can pay to advertise on our money.

Why restrict it to tech terms? We could have real Mickey Mouse money.

Maybe shorter programs would be better. Two years with 8 or 10 coins. Commemoratives of important things that made this country what it is.

My thoughts on what some of the programs could be.
The top 10 inventions. Telephone, airplane, automobile, ?.
The top 10 people. This one would be tough to not upset some.
The top 10 events. Independents, moon landing, ending of WW2.
    The top 10 ?

Maybe just one year programs with only 5 coins.
