Hey Everybody! Happy Friday! Remember a few months ago when I posted about my bro's bronze diseased finger? He's been battling with it for a while and here's the result : Poor thing. Feel free to post any random thing you'd like. Erin Btw Leslie Nielsen was a complete boss.
I thought you were about to post pictures your brother's detached diseased finger, and I got excited. (Kidding of course )
Sorry to disappoint, Type. I hope you enjoyed this one fingered salute, chrsmat. We're glad to see the line green stuff gone. bro was worried about ruining it. But, I think it looks good to go too. Phew! Erin
Probably, lol. My brother bought it from someone online. It was reportedly found in Cordoba, Spain from the 1st - 2nd century AD. It had really bad bronze disease a few months ago. Erin
The Naked Gun Series are my absolute favourite movies! That's a sick eye, akeady. Way cool! Who got the toenails? Erin
How about a pair of eyes with its corresponding eyebrows? Egyptian Bronze Inlays: Anonymous (3rd Intermediate - Late Period, ca. 1075-343 BCE)
I would tend to agree, but this particular set of eyes came from the collection of a world renowned antique collector. Hence, I would doubt he would have ripped them out of a priceless artifact to sell. It is far more profitable to sell with the statue as opposed to separately...
They could have been removed from an artifact and that info was lost as ownership transferred from collector to collector. Unless the statue was attached to something that could not be easily moved. Many artifacts are found and sold by the poorer inhabitants of an area without regard for their cultural significance.
Most likely from a wooden funerary mask, probably of which had disintegrated. They are not rare. As for the finger, they come up more often than one would think. I've only owned one in my time though. Metals just had too much value to let a broken statue go un-recycled. They can also come from works in which were otherwise unfinished, mis-cast, etc. There have been many cache's found in which various broken bits were included with recycling intended but ultimately lost. Fibulae, weapons, bucket handles, etc.
