Looks like a cast tourist copy of a gold 8 escudos ("piece of eight") from the Spanish colonies in the New World. These are often sold in gift shops as "pirate gold", sometimes with a card giving historical information. Worth maybe a buck or two as a trinket.

So that's what they're supposed to be? Okay, thanks for letting me know!

I've seen these tourist copies in shops in Newport, R.I. & the Outer Banks in N.C. also.

I used to have one of those given to me by my next door neighbor, along with a cast copy of a Nero tetradrachm of Alexandria. Kind of started me in the hobby of collecting old coins, though they were fakes, as it turned out.
