Well once again Doug has been proven wise concerning the possibility that some of us may have posted too soon. It turns out that I bought another coin. While it might not have made my top ten it certainly would have been at least a runner up.

I made the mistake of "browsing" Harlan Berk's 203rd Bid or Buy sale. I saw this coin and I suddenly blurted out "mine!".

I admittedly did not know much about the character represented by this coin, but it turns out he was an important and interesting historical figure. He was called Phillip the Fair or Phillip the Handsome aka Phillip I King of Castille. He was related to many many rulers in Europe over the centuries, and his family was very influential. Please see an interesting article about him linked below.

Post the coins that when you saw them you immediately proclaimed "mine".

Well, what a great late arrival! A nice way to close out the year.

You know, Suetonius believed the number 12 was adequate for a list. Since we are collecting ancient coins after all, perhaps we should do the same?

Oh! I totally love your newp! Perfect toning! That contrasting look is terrific.

As to December, I might not be done for the year yet, either, though any purchases I make in the remainder of the month are likely to be pretty modest unless I manage to sell enough stuff for a bigger purchase.

I too have a 16th century Brabant piece, but it's a little bit later. Funny how much more "medieval" yours looks. I suppose it's the Lombardic lettering on yours, whereas mine has a bit more modern looking Romanized font.

Belgium (Brabant): gold florin (Carolus d’or) of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, ca. 1521-1545

Reverse: DA.M[ICHI].VIRTVT[EM].CONTRA.HOSTES.TVOS, arms of Austria and Castile-León with double-headed eagle above.
Translation of reverse legend: “Give me strength against thine enemies”.

Thanks for the kind words. I loved the look of it as well.

A wonderful Charles V! I love the use of the sword on the obverse. What a terrific coin.

It's easy to see why you felt that way....I'm jealous:grumpy::D

Well, I have two that immediately come to mind---my Siculo-Punic and lifetime Alexander Tet(s)....and perhaps my final two of the year still pending at auction:p

    Another great coin @Orfew
Your guilder from Brabant is hardly barbant.

Harlan had some nice medieval coins in this sale, a couple of which I'm pondering going after once CNG closes. You've acquired some really good coins from them this year.

It seems to be the one coin in my collection that the CT Ancients forum likes the most. I don't blame them. :)

The latest one to have that effect on me was this, back in June.

    Resistance was futile. Mine!!!

There are several that are quite tempting. I will not mention which ones here in case I attract extra competition for you.
