    Anonymous Coin #4

    Anonymous_Coin_4.jpg
    Sri Lanka
    Anon, 5th century AD
    AE Indo-Roman imitative
    Dia.: 13.13 mm
    Wt.: 0.7 g
    Obv.: Bust right, with dots representing legend
    Rev.: Cross within wreath

    Why I included it in my collection:
    I bought this coin because of how it illustrates the trade connections between India and Rome. The thought that the Romans sent so many coins to India that they were adopted as India's currency, and then imitated, just illustrates the point that the ancient world was more connected than people tend to suspect. Things like that always fascinate me.

    How the Game Works

    The object of the game is pretty simple: Guess which CT member the above coin belongs to out of the five participating members.

    @FitzNigel
    @Curtisimo
    @H8_modern
    @zumbly
    @Severus Alexander

    There will be 5 total game threads and at the end I will hold a drawing to select 5 winners from those who played the game. Participants can earn multiple chances to win based on the following rules.
    1. Guess who the owner of the coin is and give a reason why you think that. (Ex.: I believe that this coin belongs to Curtisimo because he likes that kind of ancient coin.) This is the minimum requirement for entry into the drawing. Please include a reason with your guess!
    2. Anyone who posts a photo of a coin along with their guess (related or not) OR gives a particularly well thought out or amusing reason why you guessed a certain person will receive an extra chance to win.
    3. Anyone who guesses correctly will receive an extra chance to win
    4. Anyone who is a young numismatist (age 18 or younger) will receive an extra chance to win. If you are a YN please say so in your entry post.
    In total there can be up to 4 chances to win for each member in each thread!

    A Note to our Selfless Members!

    Many of you may not feel comfortable entering a giveaway because you would rather see the prizes go to a less experienced collector. That is a very admirable sentiment and I am prepared to make arrangements so that all of our members can feel comfortable playing and entering. This series of threads is more about having fun than about exchanging coins and I want as much participation from our long time and experienced members as possible. If you end up winning and you would rather the prize go to someone else you can either designate that person or allow me to choose on your behalf.

    A Note to the Volunteers

    If you would like to follow along with the results of the poll feel free to vote for yourself.

    A Note to Poll Voters

    I have been asked some questions about voting in the poll. The intention is that the poll is just for fun and to track general trends and comments only are entered into the drawings. If you voted in the previous polls and want to be entered in those drawings please PM me.

    I'm going with FitzNigel because of the two I have not used yet, I think this might be more likely his than the other. That is a pretty sad reason but it is what it is.

    My coin is the wildest Barbarous Radiate I own. Compared to the Lankan and Indian imitatives, most BR's are high art. This one is left facing (very unusual) and has a reverse figure obviously holding a rudder which makes it almost identifiable by these standards. Where was it made? IDK - When, for whom, copying what??? I know so little.

    Another coin that would definitely interest Severus Alexander, due to his generalist collecting approach.

    Here's another type of cross coin, my nummus of Hilderic:

    What the heck. I'll go with H8_modern. And I'll use Doug's reasoning:

    It's highly *doubtful* but I have to go with H8_modern.
    Why, because this is the 4th round and I don't think it belongs to the only other person I've not picked yet.

    My coin, I have nothing from 5 AD and nothing ancient from that far east.
    This would've fit better in round 3 but I forgot I had it. It's my only ancient from after 330 AD. other than a Constantine X

    I know that you all probably know this but it is acceptable to re-guess people you've already chosen in previous rounds if you have changed your mind.

    In the 5th round if anyone wants to take a guess on all 5 using all the information they will get an additional chance to win!

    I’m going with @FitzNigel, it looks like his style.

    Yes, but if I get to changing my mind and second guessing myself then,,,.
    Although that 5th round addition I may just have to take advantage of that.

    I guess H8modern because he seems like one who would collect such. I am a YN, and here is one of my coins, a beautiful Nero from Alexandria.

    TypeCoin971793 Just a random guy on the internet

    I think it is @FitzNigel because this seems right up his collecting alley: obscure yet has a cool story to tell.

    Here is a random coin that has not been shared yet.

    Da Quan Dang Qien (Large Coin Value 1000) with center punched out "Yan Huan" ("Thread Ring") style.
